On first sight I was possibly the only city fan delighted with this draw, being practically within walking distance for me!
However... that was until I checked my diary and realised that I'm at a wedding in Worcestershire that weekend in which I am best man. I missed the Solihull game because of the stag weekend, a date imposed on me. So I can now join you the rest of you with being utterly pi$$ed off.
When there finally is a game up here (if we of course get through tomorrow night) I can't even make it! Typical! I already feel completely mis-sold with the tag of Conf North. Where are the North East teams in the league??? Come on Blyth, time for you to get promoted again.

What a terrible draw! But, first we have to win tomorrow night; then we can worry about Gateshead.
But thinking about it, it's them that have to do the worrying; we would be firmly underdogs (as we were against Coventry).

Gateshead away must be the furthest away trip for any club at this stage. Kidderminster v Stourbridge must be pretty much the shortest distance any club will travel and looks like it has all the potential for an upset.

I, like Citytoon, and before he consulted his diary, am one of the few people to welcome the draw. I am due to be at a Cup tie. But unlike Citytoon I can and would cancel my prior engagement. However, that match is in a town on the main Scotland to Newcastle rail line and the station is only 10 minutes from the ground. A quick look at the timetable would lead to a selfish request for an evening kick-off in Gateshead so that I could see both matches! Only joking of course!
It will be a tough replay tomorrow night having seen the reports and highlights from Saturday but they will not be looking forward to it!
Citytoon – Blyth Spartans and Darlington 1883 are currently first and second in the Northern Premier League!

Citytoon – Blyth Spartans and Darlington 1883 are currently first and second in the Northern Premier League! Yes auldreekie- I am keeping a close eye on Blyth and Darlington. Blyth of course used to be at the same level as City up until a few seasons ago (2011/12). I can't remember us ever getting much joy against them, even watching a 6 nil thumping one year. It's a bleak place to go, but convenient (for me!). Always felt guilty chatting to the other City fans about the journey up when mine only took a couple of stops on the metro! I used to live in Gateshead until about two months ago (now across the river in Newcastle). I have only been to watch "the Heed" a couple of times because their ground is at the International Stadium and you have to watch across an athletics track. Not a good matchday experience for me- the game is so far away and there is no atmosphere. One of the joys of non league is being so close to the action. Gateshead used to play at a lower level than City but snuck up through the leagues via Conf North (in 2008/09 I believe) whilst we sidestepped across to Conf South for a couple of seasons, so I never got to see a Gateshead v City game. If we get through the reply tomorrow night I still won't... :-(

I can understand your comment about the Gateshead Stadium. I watched a Cup tie between two non-league clubs at Edinburgh's Meadowbank Stadium with an athletics track and the crowd only in the main stand with a capacity of 7,500 seats. Good facilities for the spectators but a loss of atmosphere even though the visitors have probably the biggest travelling support in the non-league game here. One advantage is that the steeply raked seating gave everyone a terrific view of the match. At half time none of the visitors I spoke to disagreed with the first half sending off of one of their guys as everyone could clearly see what happened.
I remember that 0:6 reverse at Blyth and recall Richard Dryden conducting his post-match post mortem on the pitch. Didn't Phil Brown at Hull City get into trouble for doing something similar? On the brighter side I am sure I saw City win there the year before or after?

On the brighter side I am sure I saw City win there the year before or after? We won 2-1 in 2011/12 season. Results of games at Croft Park against Blyth in recent times: 2006/7 2-2 2007/8 6-0 2009/10 3-0 2011/12 1-2Anyway, I digress. It's a massive game tomorrow night. Time to believe and keep the FA Cup dream alive. A result tomorrow would be a superb effort and a testament to how Carl and Matt have turned things round this season. More pandemonium in the FA Cup please

Hopefully the supporters club will be running a coach for the long trip to Gateshead, will be interesting to see if Worcester City Fc will be organising any coaches like they did last season to Scunthorpe.

City have played there twice before and drawn both games. The two matches were very close together, a 1-1 in March 1984 and then a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the 84/85 season. The first match was watched by a "crowd" of 176 including myself. I think Paul Moss scored our goal from the penalty spot. I went on the train - I was still young enough to have a student railcard - and after the game had s very boozy night out in Newcastle and stayed with an old school friend who was studying there.
I also went to the other match - Steve Crompton scored both our goals - but went on the supporters' coach. I can recall we took a gent with us who was going up to visit family rather than to watch the game and left him behind when he didn't appear at the pre-arranged pick -up spot.

Thats great news two coaches going up from in and around Worcester. Plus all us "Northern Lot", we should have quite a few there to cheer City into the 1st round proper. Are there any good pubs near the ground where we can meet up?

Gateshead drew 2-2 at home to Altringham today which makes them winless in 5. Now is surely as good a time to play them as any. Are there any good pubs near the ground where we can meet up? I'm not aware of any pubs near to the ground. It's out of Gateshead so if you're heading up by train you're best off having a pre match pint in Newcastle and then catching the metro across the river to the ground. It's two stops on the Metro from Central Station to Gateshead Stadium. A couple of recommended pubs near to Newcastle station are the Town Wall or the Forth which are opposite each other and both have decent beer. Head across the road in front of the station and up Pink Lane (which you access between Subway and Greggs). They are a 2 min walk from the station. So gutted not to be able to make this.

Never been to it but see this place is mentioned in one of the ground guides being a few mins walk away from the ground: The SchoonerWebsite says it has Wylam and Harviestoun which are very drinkable.

That right. And I quote from the Football Grounds Guide website; " Probably the closest pub is the Schooner, which sits on the Banks of the River Tyne. Continue down Neilson Road, away from Park Road and towards the Tyne, cross Saltmeadows Road and head down South Shore Road, and the pub is down this road on the left. It's only a few minutes walk away." It also goes onto say; "Please note that alcohol is not made available to away fans in the East Stand." So its a pre-match pint in the schooner then!

Sorry for typo. That should have read 'whole' not 'hole', as these establishments are certainly NOT holes.

If I had to pick one I liked the most it would be the Cumberland Arms, though is popular and therefore busy on Friday and Saturday evenings as has music of comedy acts on.

Another you might like to visit if you have the time spare or kill and are new to and are exploring Newcastle is up by the NUFC ground called the Strawberry. Yes it is a Toons pub but it is worth a visit and does sell a range of real ales for the 'CAMERA' brigade or connoisseurs, as well as a good assortment of regular beers and lagers for those that prefer those.

And Gateshead have brought the addmission price down from £15 to £10 (good on them). We are meeting in the Schooner Pub - www.theschooner.co.uk/ - about 2pm - its only 5 minutes walk to the ground and does 4 or 5 real ales - including "Rat Brewery White Rat" 4%; "Roosters Wild Mule" 3.9%; "Dark Star BlockHead" 4%; "Wylam Red Kite" 4.5%; And "Titanic Plum Porter" 4.9%!; - not for the faint-hearted!

Hi folks,
Gateshead fan in peace. Hope you’re looking forward to visiting Tyneside. I’ve come to dump some information for your use:
If you’re coming by car, the closest to the stadium you can park is Stadium Road or Saltmeadows Road. The Police usually put out cones on Stadium Road, but never as far as the back end (where the road joins the main carriageway), and there’s usually a place to park there. One of the businesses on that road occasionally does secure parking on their lot for about £3, but I can't guarantee they'll be open on the day. Saltmeadows is usually a better bet, though as always arriving early ensures the best spot.
If you’re coming by train, hop on the Metro at Central Station and ride to Gateshead Stadium. You need a Zone A ticket, and both the green and yellow lines run there so any train can be used. The trains you want will be announced as heading towards South Shields or South Hylton, and of course there’s a map in the station to keep you right. Upon disembarking at Gateshead Stadium, head over the bridge and look for an exit on your right; turn onto it, and follow the long road all the way down and cross the road and you will be at the stadium. The path is marked by circular paving stone patterns at about 100yrd intervals – you can look it up on Google Maps.
If you’re wanting a drink, you’re asking the wrong person as I’m teetotal, but I’ll do my best anyway. Newcastle is obviously chock full of bars – the Centurion is embedded into the wall of Central Station, and I believe there’s a second bar there too whose name escapes me. Across the road there’s also The Head of Steam, Gotham Town and an Irish Bar, though visiting fans before you haven’t had good things to say about them. Slightly further up from the station on Westgate Road is the Union Rooms, which is a popular Heed Matchday Pub Crawl haunt. Basically the spaces around Monument and Central Station Metro stations are teeming with bars, high and low-end. In Gateshead itself, the Heed Army’s home pub is the Grey Nags Head on Gateshead High Street (nearest Metro stop: Gateshead), where there’s a Wetherspoons close by, while at the stadium The Schooner, on South Shore Road just off Saltmeadows, is a popular haunt for both Heed and visiting fans, and has received many positive comments from visitors. If it’s food you’re after, there’s a McDonalds a short walk from the stadium, and of course plenty of places in Central Gateshead and Newcastle.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. Have a safe journey!
