I note that there is a letter printed in today's Worcester News from a Neil Humphries about traffic around the proposed site.
Important extracts include:
1. When did Duckworth EVER offer us land to "build a new stadium" - when, from talking to him at length, both privately - and live on national BBC radio - he has categorically said a ground share or the hosting of WCFC on Warriors land would be "over his dead body". And especially now we have his stance on not wanting the club up there signed and in writing by both Jim O'Toole and himself.
2. The parking point is a fallacy, as the plans include a bigger car park and provision of other parking areas - alongside the coning off of the local streets to prevent parking by fans (as we had at SGL)
3. I note that he makes no protest about the pool - but seems dead set against the stadium proposal.
4. IIRC the report on "Droitwich Road congestion Armageddon" - from looking at the average figures referenced in the report - there are "- On average, during the working week the route has had to handle an extra 287 cars each day (over a 12 hour period)". One every 5 minutes on average each way...
5. Myself and a few others have regularly been up at the tip entrance at various times on a Saturday afternoon (normally between noon and 2pm) - to be confronted with NO queues or build up whatsoever...
I am still awaiting replies to letters I wrote to the WN which were both printed - a couple of weeks ago (asking Jason Marshall to please clarify several points I, and many others, would like to engage with his PPP Group on) - and from a week before the local elections (asking Cllr Gareth Jones about his position on several facets of the application and his personal views).
Important extracts include:
The report in the WN that traffic flow has increased on Droitwich Road since the park and ride was scrapped.
Finally, the report that the scrutiny committee, chaired by Cllr. Joy Squires has been debating "congestion".
I applaud this initiative and trust that this committee will oppose vigorously any planning application which will inherently add to congestion, such as the application to build a football stadium on land adjacent to the Perdiswell Sports Centre.
Vehicles using the "tip" already create queues directly opposite the proposed stadium entrance. Approximately 120 parking spaces are already being consumed on Saturday by people using the sports centre and playing golf. Add to this swimmers' vehicles now that this has all been given the all clear.
Now, envisage the impact that the arrival of some 200/300 vehicles carrying passengers to a football match will have, all looking for somewhere to park only to find the car park full.
I would like to see Worcester City FC "come home", but not to Perdiswell, especially while Cllr. Squires is trying to "reduce" congestion in Worcester.
Why didn't WCFC take up the kind offer of Mr Cecil Duckworth to build a stadium on the field adjacent to the Warriors stadium?
The football club would then only have to ensure that the two fixture lists did not clash. Parking would be no problem and they would irritate no one.
