Decent result having just 10 men against 11 and the ref. Symmo still couldn't get a challenge to go his way. Ellis played much much better than last Tuesday, Sean had an improved game and Nti had a cracking game off the bench.
The referees at our level really are terrible, I'd hate to be a supporter of a club in a league below ours, must be dire. That said, I was one of just two around me who did think the red was the right decision, was it just us who thought it?

A draw that felt like a win at the final whistle. I think until Aaron Brown's dismissal things were looking very promising and we we taking the game to Guisley. Technically I think the ref was right with his red card but on the other hand many refs would have given a yellow. It was always a struggle from then on even after Symo's super headed goal. What was really impressive was the way everyone battled and competed hard through to the end. Fair play to Danny Nti I thought he worked really hard when he came on pushing forward and then chasing all the way back to give defensive cover. Ellis and Danny J in midfield too kept on battling. The highlight for me was the extraordinary 'maradonna' turn by Tommo in the opposition half, not only is he a great defender and inspirational leader but he can turn on the skills when he needs to, outstanding! One thing we don't lack is motivation, hard work and team spirit. In the end I was proud of them all.

City dug in, battled hard with 10 men for 3/4 of the match and fully deserved the point. Playing against Guisley with 11 was hard enough and when Brown was sent off the whole game changed. It became a battle of attack v defence. Symons goal lifted the team and despite enjoying the lions share of possession City's goal was not unduly threatened mainly thanks to some wayward shooting from the visitors.
Second half Nti came on for Dunkley who seemed to be struggling with an injury and the game continued its attack v defence scenario. The visitors passing the ball looking to create the opening, City gamefully chasing around plugging the gaps. And on occasion City chose their moment to counter attack to good effect but with no reward. Just when it looked as though the storm was weathered Guisley equalised, much to the frustration of Symons who was booked for dissent.
Man of the match Symons who single handedly occupied the visitors defence all night, running himself to a stand still. But it was a team effort with every one of them emerging with credit. As for the sending off it appeared harsh. No doubt it was a foul. Worthy of a yellow, not sure about a red one though. If any lesson is to be learned maybe the challenge should have come sooner with the attacker further from goal - but its easy watching from the stands. Up to then we had matched the visitors, choosing to get the ball forwards quickly in contrast to earlier in the season when we would take several passes. Maybe not trusting the pitch.

All round good performance tonight fully deserved the point.Thought the sending off was harsh, the ref was very poor all game,Symo again was penalised constantly when he should have been given the freekick.Symo for me was citys man of the match but everyone put a good shift in showing plenty of effort and commitment for the cause.

As I understand it a straight red card is the appropriate sanction when a player unfairly denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
I just don't see how that was an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
The Guiseley player must have been fouled by Brown about 30 yards from goal and he wasn't running in the direction of the goal either.
A yellow card yes, red card no.

It will be interesting to see the highlights because from where I was it looked like a stonewall yellow card. Obviously the red was a game changer but after that (and to be fair before it) everything that was wrong about the Solihull Moors performance was right about this one. 100% commitment from every player, good discipline in defending all over the pitch, maybe a few times some ambitious passes were attempted which should have been kept simple and gave the ball away but it showed the players still wanted to get forward. It took the referee to ignore a follow through on Nti that lost some of the defensive concentration and ended a couple of minutes later with Guisley getting the equaliser. Also, Nti's yellow for diving was a travesty with his shirt being pulled off.

Thanks for the reports on the game. When I saw the Worcester News update with the red card so early in the match I feared the worst as it was a big ask to play 2/3rds of the game a man down. A real gutsy performance and a good result.

A gutsy, disciplined and determined performance with 10 men for such a long period, typifying the character of the team and their excellent fitness levels against a Guiseley side who moved the ball around well and made our boys run. An excellent point in the circumstances. Whilst I can see how the ref gave a red card, he also could have given a yellow as Jacob Rowe was virtually alongside the striker. That said, another ref not good enough no doubt fast tracked through too quickly. This fast tracking of refs who have little life experience and cannot man manage has been a feature of this season. They might end up as good refs, but it's much too much, much too young.

I was very proud of our players after that performance; every man jack of them gave their all. Symmo was outstanding, chasing lost causes till he nearly dropped, but it would be invidious to single out one player when so much effort was given. Ellis Deeney and Danny Jackman also stood out for me.
As for the red card, well for a clear goal scoring opportunity he was very wide to the touchline and there were many defenders making their way back to the goalmouth, so not for me. A yellow would have been fair. The worrying bit is that the referee had his hands very firmly behind his back and didn't seem inclined to give anything other than the free-kick, until that is he was surrounded by Guiseley players: coincidence?
They say what goes around comes around and now we know what it felt like to be Coventry, playing the best part of a game 10 v 11. Considering Guiseley's league position this was a very creditable point.
