Whoever created the conference fixture list over this period needs their head examining. They have clearly never played football at this level. Van Gaal was moaning, I see, about Manchester United having to play two fixtures in three days: his team are full-time professionals. Our lads are not, and whilst I expect many have a long break over the Christmas/New Year period they wouldn't necessarily want to spend it playing football: these are working men with, quite often, families, which they might wish to spend some time with. I think there are far too many fixtures crammed into a short space of time.
There must be some very tired legs out there, and that applies to all teams.
The Conference should have a re-think about this next year.

Tim, I do agree that the Conference ask an awful lot of players over this period and they compound matters by insisting all games are finished by the end of April. Far better to have fewer fixtures over the festive period and allow a longer season.

Although I see your point,I think the way it is set up is still preferable. The players are most likely to be off work and would find it easier to be at games than trying to finish early for a Tuesday evening match, the same might apply to some supporters. How many times have we not had a full compliment of substitutes for a midweek fixture? The clubs always get better attendances at this time of year than later in the season on Tuesday/Wednesday nights competing against Champions League viewers. If you look at our season, the opening fixture was the 9th August [plenty early enough]and finish the last Saturday in April.Four clubs will be involved in play offs after this. By the 1st weekend in October we had already played 13 league games. In January we have 7 league fixtures lined up and 4 for February plus 2 re-arranged home games against Solihull Moors and Hednesford to be sorted. This hasn't allowed for any postponements.[Kiddy Harriers may also have to re schedule games] Also take into consideration any cup runs. And though the fixtures look a bit intensive over the Festive period,it's probably the best option.
