If Chesterfield lose appeal do we get a bye?

Terrible draw, a solid mid table league one side at home. Yes we'll get the fans and a good atmosphere at home, but it's a very very hard game against a strong side where we won't be getting the big money that we would have done from an away game. Having said that, if we beat scunthorpe then we'll give it our best shot but I don't like the look of it.

It's at home at least
Didn't we have Chesterfield away the year Basingstoke dumped us out of the 4QR replay?

I don't think it's so terrible. We've beaten one League One side, drawn with another, both away: what have we to fear? They are the ones to have to worry.
Let's concentrate on beating Scunny first anyway.
As for who we play that's a difficult question. If the appeal by MK Dons is upheld the FA will either decide to kick Chesterfield out and reinstate MK Dons; or they could order the match to be replayed; or they could dismiss the appeal; or they could award us a bye. Depends on the facts. If we or Scunny got a bye do we get the prize money? (I suspect not).

Obviously we have to see off Scunthorpe but...........if we do,
whilst we all would have liked a plum Premiership team, I'd much prefer to potentially be at home against anyone than away. Whilst there were loads better, there were also far worse draws than this one. One would think that Aggborough would be full, and at least a home tie is more winnable. It could have been away at Chesterfield ( or MK Dons ) or somewhere similar or worse, with a smaller crowd and a greater likelihood of getting beat. We can't complain about getting a home draw, irrespective of the opposition. Let's worry about it after next Wednesday. Let's concentrate on beating FC Halifax first this Saturday, the other games will look after themselves.
By the way, Bradford have been kicked out in the recent past for fielding an ineligible player, so I imagine that Chesterfield are sweating. I don't think that a bye would apply in any circumstances.

Yes I take the blame. I put Chesterfield into the ether. Agree with Tim though. Winnable.we should fear nobody.

Looks fairly straight forward. The FA have to decide if a verbal agreement is acceptable? The rules state it must be in writing. Will they accept the verbal? A simple yes or no. Shouldn't take long? CHESTERFIELD FC NEWS

Obviously we have to win the replay for any comment to be relevant. But my thoughts are: Winnable, if we beat Scunthorpe simply because they're in the same league & I guess will be nervous. However, far from a money spinning draw. I would have much rather had Blyth for progression or a premier team for the money.

Exactly, though whoever wins the replay, hope they also beat the Franchise vermin, if it's them who get through.

In 2006 Bury were expelled from the cup for fielding an illegible player and Chester reinstated (the player was Stephen Turnbull who scored for Blyth Spartans on Friday against Hartlepool). Droyelsden in 2008 and Bradford in 2012 were also expelled and their opponents reinstated. I guess it comes down to whether a team wins or not but history doesn't favour Chesterfield.

Assuming we do win next Wednesday, will the Chesterfield/MK Dons game be on Saturday or Sunday? We're currently scheduled to play a League match at home on Sunday, presumably because there's a full programme of Conference games (but probably not League 1 games)on the previous Thursday. It probably depends on TV coverage for other games.

Aren't we in danger of getting too far ahead of ourselves because it will be very difficult to beat Scunthorpe second time around. Furthermore, and in many ways equally as important, our lads have another important and tough game on Saturday against Halifax in a competition we could actually progress further in than the FA Cup and get to Wembley - it is achievable

All talk of Chesterfield should be banned until the replay is done.

The FA have decided to replay the tie...
Strange decision.

Here's the full decision from the FA's website:-
Presumably that replay will now have to be next week. The interesting bit is the "The tie will be played to a finish, with no further replay." so that will make it a feisty affair will it not?

The Chesterfield v MK Dons replay date has been set for Friday 2 Jan. That surely then impacts on the date for the third round tie which is suprising.

Just to clarify how the FA operate if you are a Non League Club you get kicked out for this administrative cock up (reference to numerous examples over the years), if you are a League Club you get a second chance as Bradford City did last season I think. Amazing that the Chesterfield Chairman is moaning about the decision!

I think this is a really poor decision & could open "the flood gates" now a precident has been set. Scenario...... A club with lots of injury problems; lets play an illegal player just to get a replay ?? Could happen in future. The FA officials are a bunch of numpties. The rules are perfectly clear, if it's not in writing !!!!

Terrible and completely illogical decision. The first rule of any competition is that all 11 who take the pitch must be eligible to start. If they are not, then the offending club should get thrown out of the competition irrespective of the actual result or the performance of the player in the match. Whether it was deliberate, intended to deceive, or accidental is neither here nor there. How can one distinguish in judgement when the end result is the same ?

Obviously the Worcester/Scunthorpe v MK Dons/Chesterfield third round game will not now take place on third round weekend. I would imagine it will take place on the Tuesday/Wednesday evening when third round replays are scheduled (i.e. the 13th/14th Jan). A shame for us or Scunthorpe as we dont get to play on third round weekend. I dont imagine the the resolution particularly pleases Chesterfield or MK Dons - do MK really want a fixture pile up when they are pushing for promotion?
