I hope that this is me just being unnecessarily concerned and that I've completely misunderstood the situation and can't add up but........
I see from the Harrogate match report that Ellis Deeney wasn't selected in case he picked up a yellow card which would have put him out of the Scunthorpe match. He had 4 yellow cards prior to yesterday ?
According to the website, Wayne Thomas also had 4 yellow cards this season prior to yesterday ( North Ferriby Utd, Lowestoft Town, Chorley, and Harrogate Town when he went in goal ) . Yesterday at Harrogate according to the match report it looks as though he got another yellow card in the 91st minute, thus making five.
Based on the Deeney thinking, can someone please tell me that I'm wrong and don't understand, or is Wayne Thomas out of the Scunthorpe match ?

Is the website wrong ? I hope so ? Thinking about it ..........
I thought that Wayne Thomas had got booked at Coventry over their penalty ? The BBC match report has a booking for him, but the City website has it down as a booking for Graham Hutchison ? This would have been Wayne's fifth yellow. I hope that this is the case. Can someone put me out of my worrying ?

He's still a big miss for us: let's hope Jacob Rowe is fit by Saturday.

If Jacob Rowe is struggling, then I for one would be delighted to see the return of Shabir Khan, thankfully now injury free.

I had been wondering with a glut of games coming up and a busy Xmas period - would Carl look to add to the squad, even if a loanee or two? Recent cash flows can only help.
If Rowe is possibly going to be out (tendonitis) - perhaps centre back is where we need more cover... Shab has to be pretty high risk given his lack of games

Just in case anyone missed it there was disappointing news about Wayne Thomas in today's post match interview with Carl Heeley, in that Thommo has played his last game for City, having been offered a coaching job in New York. Carl paid a fulsome tribute to him, but I am sure all City supporters will join me in thanking him for his sterling efforts during his time here and wishing him all the very best in the USA. He was outstanding and not only in his own performances, but in encouraging others.

A fine professional and a leader, his experience brought on the games of others around him. Thank you and good luck and I am sure the fans will be sad to see you go. (I suspect opponents will not be so sad).

Well that is indeed a blow, but who would turn down a coaching offer in the States? The very best of luck to the big man who has been IMMENSE for us. His passion and will to win has been outstanding, I remember a game away against Leamington and I think we were getting stuffed losing by three or four goals and in time added so there really was no hope......I heard Thommo give one of our younger players an absolute rocket for not tracking back quickly enough. That for me is a measure of the man. I do also agree he has been tremendously influential on the rest of our team especially the youngsters who have grown in his presence. Best of luck Thommo we will not forget what you did for City, hope the USA is good to you, you deserve it.

Gutted as a city fan to lose him but understandable for him, he's not getting any younger so when a coaching job comes up you'd be daft not to. Tommo really did give us so much though, experience at the back, a strong leader, a goalkeeper, a goal scorer, even some occasional flair that wouldn't go amiss in a Barca team (the one turn on the ball he did at home a couple of weeks ago was utter brilliance).
It's not often that a player can win so many plaudits in their first year at a club, best of luck to Wayne in USA, give them hell.

Hopefully Wayne will get a chance to be at the Fylde home game to get a proper send off
All the best to him for the future, I bet the cup run this season gave him a real boost at the end of his playing career

Thommo has been truly immense both last season and this. His leadership, attitude, will to win, competitiveness, and sheer hunger to play has shone through, and rubbed off onto all the other players. Second best is not for him, and it shows every game he plays. Whilst I'm sure that referees and opponents won't be too sad to see him leave, we certainly will. All the best with your new job, a fantastic opportunity too good to turn down. We've enjoyed him, he's enjoyed his time with us, a great character.

Surely we can't forgive him for that Scunthorpe penalty miss..? In all seriousness - what a contribution he has made to the club. Not sure how / from where we can replace him. Incidentally, I see the story is currently featured on the BBC Homepage

Surely we can't forgive him for that Scunthorpe penalty miss..? Haha, his first one was classy enough though. As my Granddad said at the time, ''At least it was one of the senior players who missed the last penalty for us, that could ruin a young player.''

I was just reading Thommo's wikipedia page. Didn't realize he was in Torquay's squad when they visited the Lane in '98 for the FA cup game. Anyone know if he played?
August 2007, Thomas signed for Southampton in a £1.2 million deal. Does this make him the most expensive player ever to play for us?

Probably, but I wonder what £ 85,000 in 1961 would be worth today ? That is what Inter Milan paid Aston Villa for the then England centre forward ( 5 goals in 7 games ) Gerry Hitchens ( who also played in his early days for Kidderminster } . I can just about remember Gerry playing for us in the early 70's. Quite a signing at the time I recall. engfootyabroad.wordpress.com/past-efa-profiles/gerryhitchens/

I can recommend looking at the NY Red Bulls web site. It all looks highly impressive. What an exciting move for Wayne. Good luck to him and his family.

...and that's presumably without taking into account the grossly inflated transfer fees since 1961!

Thanks thesecondjack. Wow, 85 k was a lot of money then in 1961. He must have been some player - apparently one of Villa's best ever, and much respected in Italy.

In reply to cloud's questions, Wayne Thomas didn't play against in the Torquay FA Cup game. He wasn't one of the subs either.
As for transfer fees, I don't have a definitive answer but John Curtis went from Man Utd to Blackburn for £1.5m.
