Not long now...It says Ties to be played on 8 and 9 November 2014. When is that decided?

Depends on which games are the TV games. The BBC site reports of up to 16 live games. I've heard a rumour that they're going to have a Soccer Saturday type programme but on Sunday where they jump around the grounds.

Have to say I'm happy with that! Good earner and potential for win or full house replay at Kiddy. Anyone know when datesare sorted?

Yes really happy with this draw for a number of reasons
- It exercises the demons of missing the game 30 years ago as a result of me being grounded by my parents ! - Hopefully a min of £60k in the bank for the club - I still get to go to the gig I have tickets for afterwards in Leicester !!!!!
Same start as 30 years ago please

Didn`t Big Sam play centre-half for the Sky Blues in those days? When we took the early lead it was like Liverpool all over again - and Cov were in the First Division !

It was the 8th January 1983 and the attendance was 11,843. I can remember looking round at the big electronic scoreboard and reading the magic scoreline "Coventry City 0 Worcester City 1" and almost pinching myself in disbelief. Sadly it didn't last. I think the figure of £60k above is a bit ambitious. You can expect a crowd of 8,500; if the average paid per head is £12 and we get 40% (isn't it split 40/40/20 between the two clubs and the FA?) that comes out at about £40k.
Way back in the mists of time we also played Coventry at SGL on 5th November 1960, losing 4-1 in front of a crowd of 7,751. Even further back in time we lost 2-0 at Coventry in QR3 on 2nd November 1907, whilst our only victory against them was in QR1 on 7th October 1905, when we won 3-0 away at a time when Coventry were also in the Birmingham League.

Tim it is £22-25 admission - Gate will be about 7k so that is over £150k gate money alone. Take £30k expenses off and I would say its a fair figure

It's a straight 50/50 split after expenses at this stage, 3rd round onwards is where the FA take a cut.

I remember the game in '83 and the build up to it. Into the 3rd round proper for the first time in my lifetime as a City fan and really looking forward to it. Not often one can say we are still in the Cup at the beginning of January. However a few days before the game gales blew the roof off one of the stands at Highfield Road. Imagine the chaos, people had already bought tickets. It was decided that the game would still be staged at Coventry but with reduced capacity and the main stand closed. Tickets had to be returned and new ones issued. Looking back this exercise went through smoothly given the circumstances. I think the crowd of 11k represented a full house under the restrictions. Hopefully events will go smoother on and off the pitch this time.

Discussion on Coventry forum on likely entrance fee for this game...
Talk of reducing to say a tenner to entice more fans.., although apparently we have to agree to any reduction to the 'regular' entrance price

Stuff the gate receipts. How much do first round winners get...
Cracking draw. Should be a great day out.

I don't believe it!!!! Missed the 83 game as my landlord was getting married and it was miss the game or find a new place to live. And this time I can't make it either. Bugger, bugger, bugger.
Be alright for the replay though.

Why can't you get to this one niels, that's a real shame. This is a great draw (although Blythe would have been my ideal & I've no doubt FGR for someone) A win would I'm sure get us masses of media coverage & extra revenue, as well as bring out the usual local "higher league" supporters This is winnable & turn out to be far more profitable than the league & gate payouts.

We took the most away fans to Highfield Road that season and fared slightly better than some team called 'Manchester United' who Cov.beat 3-0 in their previous home game!

I enjoyed seeing the FA Cup draw live even without the added interest of waiting for Number 71 to be drawn!
A good draw like others have said for many reasons.
City will come up against Steven "Elvis" Pressley, the Sky Blues young Scottish manager. He is a really decent guy but on the field he was a very competitive player who really led a team. One of those players that you thought would eventually be a manager by bringing those qualities to the dressing room. He played - amongst others - for both Rangers and Celtic (and Scotland) but is known here as the captain of the 2006 Hearts cup winning team. He also played for Coventry for a short spell when they were in the Premier League before returning to Scotland.
Like Tim I went back to the Official History for some guidance! It says City have played Coventry on four occasions in the FA Cup - 1905, 1907, 1960 & 1983 - 1 win 3 defeats. 2 games were when the clubs were both in the Birmingham League. In 1960 there was one "division" between the clubs, in 1983 there were three and today there are two.

Don't understand why people can't make the Saturday, cancel what you're doing, this is a one-off!
When will the exact time/date be know incidentally?

When is this game going to be played? put me out of my misery PLEASE! I have a commitment on that Saturday which is set in concrete - bad enough I was going to miss the clash with the Moors but to miss this would be too much! BUT BBC website says there will be one live game on the FRIDAY night And eight 'plum ties' will get coverage on the SUNDAY. Please Lord, ours must be a 'plum tie' worthy of the cameras? I wonder when we will find out?

I went on the football special (train) from Shub Hill station. I remember dozens of police met us at Coventry station then took us on double decker bus's to Highfield Road. We were in a big open end, and I think it was all-seated. A very good day out (apart from the result!). A lot of the Worcester Wolves, WBA, Villa, Chelsea fans etc. came out and supported City that day. Johny Hawkins and his mum had a big home-made WCFC flag! 30+ years on - lets beat them this time - or at lest get a draw!

Coventry may reduce the entrance fee for the game, WCFC have to agree apparently. I hope a minimum payment is guaranteed before such an agreement is reached.
