My worry about tomorrow night is not that we won't be able to outplay Leamington but simply this, if we do have the same Ref as Saturday, while he wasn't the worst ref I have seen this season, he was weak and allowed a number of feuds to develop. I have no doubt those feuds may develop further tomorrow. It was great to see Tommo back on the pitch when Hutch went off but his very first action was to kick one of the opposition up in the air. Ellis Deeney was magnificent on Saturday, but he got booked for a challenge very similar to the one he was sent off for the other week AND he will insist on having the last word with the Ref. You could see the Ref was frustrated by all of the 'back chat' he was getting on Saturday. I just hope we keep our discipline and we don't get someone sent off because that more than anything could torpedo our hopes. I see Carl's entirely justifiable comments in the press to the effect that they should have had player sent off and I think it could be a bad tempered affair tomorrow night and football may take second place. Then again perhaps I worry too much! Hope I am wrong. Come on City!

Cracking result! A goal at the start of each half - crucial timing!

Excellent. A game between teams of contrasting style. Leamington not shy to use their physicality, arms all over the place, awkward customers and effective. Always a threat with the ball into the box, if they did not win it they made sure the clearance wasn't comfortable with the possibility of the ball dropping kindly for a forward. City stood up manfully in defence, with Vaughan producing the saves required when called upon. The midfield of Jackman, Geddes, Gater and Deeney in contrast displayed fine control sometimes being too intricate.
The goals could not have come at a better time with Jackman's soon after the restart as good a goal as one is likely to see. He started the move in his own half by playing the ball forwards out of defence as Leamington lost possession going forwards, the ball was sent wide where Williams raced down the wing before sending over a cross which was met by Jackman at the near post to glance a header into the net, their defenders chasing shadows.
In the end the City did enough to see the game out, with the game threatening to get out of hand on a couple of occasions. City's Geddes was cautioned for dissent while there were one or two hefty challenges that seemed to go unpunished apart from a crunching tackle from behind on Jackman that would have merited a straight red - but I may be biased..
Safely through to the next round.

That last post just about sums up the game nicely. Leamington made us work very hard for that win and - given that cup matches always hang on the odd bit of luck - we just had that little bit more than them and deserved the win as we played football. They were certainly very physical.
The fracas on the touchline shortly before the end erupted so quickly it was difficult to be sure what happened: it seemed to me that their No 9 (Was that Stefan Moore?) stamped on McDermott, but after the fuss had died down it was McDermott and their No 4 who got booked. Why was that? I don't think the ref actually saw what happened clearly; had he done so it was red cards not yellow. Pity that this had to spoil the atmosphere. I have a feeling that when we play the league game at their place we may be in for a very hard time.
Still, job done: through to the next round and £7.5k richer.

It was number 4 (Joe Magunda) who was histrionically shielding the ball. McDermott held onto him as they turned and tumbled Joe fell on McDermott's midriff with his knee in a deliberate "trying not to avoid landing on him" sort of way often seen in the professional game. A bit of pushing and shoving then followed from both teams. Ultimately it could have been two reds, but two yellows is probably about right for this hand-bags incident. This may well deteriorate over the next two meetings, but I hope not in a prejudicial way from our point of view. The clash in the first half which saw Dodd and one of yours go into the hoardings wasn't even a free-kick for me. Dodd uses his wrong foot to go past the outside of left-backs and consequently is always off-balance if a subsequent shoulder-to-shoulder takes place.

Very well done by City. Taking both games into account (4 x 45 minute halves) I don't think anyone can argue that City were the better team in three out of those four halves and deserved to go through. I would put Leamington ahead perhaps for half of the second half at their place and half of the first half last night. Having said that, even when Leamington were in the ascendency, how many saves did Nathan Vaughan have to make?
I could not me more happy for all those connected with WCFC just now with a few more pounds in the bank and a real opportunity to go on to the first round proper. Let's just not underestimate our opponents in the next round.

Agree with much of the match assessments above. Also thought it was a cracking atmosphere second half, hope the highlights reflect that

That's another way of saying there was litle atmosphere in the first half. That's what happens when half the stadium isn't used. On a tangental note, are the lights always switched off in the stands/terraces in evening matches? And why do teams play that goddamned awful Pig-Bag BBB goal celebration muzak? Maybe it's to advise those that have fallen asleep that a goal has been scored. Agree with much of the match assessments above. Someone sounds a touch bitter that it wasn't played for them... Great result, well done City! Sounded a great atmosphere from the highlights. Just sorry not to have been there (thanks again to Dan for his superb commentary!)

Not at all bitter. I loathe the creeping Amercianisation of British (English) sports. No need for it. Agree about the result. In my view the better team in both halves of the tie went through. Good luck. And why do teams play that goddamned awful Pig-Bag BBB goal celebration muzak? Maybe it's to advise those that have fallen asleep that a goal has been scored. I just guessed it was Pig-Bag as that seems very popular. It is a very good track outside goal celebration music. I'd rather have the underlying tune to Mouldy Old Dough.
