Can someone please tell me the status of comments on this board?
Are they copyright? Once expressed do they automatically enter the public domain?
Some comments I recently put on here (quite sensible - I don't have a problem with them) were quoted verbatim in the Worcester News. In other words they are using my comments, without my permission, in their newspaper. Is this right?

I would say that once you've put something out there - whether here or on FB or Twitter for example - it's out for good unless you delete your post and anyone can copy what you've said. If it's then misrepresented that's a different matter.

That's terrible Tim. They should be ashamed. I think they have breached copyright. You published the comments on here. Had you done so in a book and they used that it would be a breach of copyright. What's the difference by publishing here?

Tim, Quotes from blogs, Facebook and Twitter are re-produced all the time throughout the media and the misconception that what you post `stays where it is posted` has got a great many people into trouble. Unless you have endless funds to spend on preparing an `intellectual property case`, I suggest you regard the Banter Board as the public domain.
