Whilst spending an evening in The Plough (that august drinking establishment twixt Cathedral and concrete monstrosity called the Tech College) last week - I bumped in Graham Selby (who I had not seen for a while).
Talk obviously came round to things City - and the situation we are currently in with the last season at the ground (a place he seemed genuinely gutted would not be with us next season) - I suggested that we have another one of the "Evenings With the Legends" night we did a few years ago with several members of the 78/79 title winning side sitting round with some of the fans telling some of the great stories from back in that period.
Graham seemed definitely interested in doing another such event - are the Supporters Trust interested in putting one of these on?

Selb would always be up for it, smashing guy he is, and unless he's had another knee op in the last year, we're level pegging! Havent seen him since Dan stopped playing football with Rocky. Getting the Legends together was an epic task, some were relatively easy, like Barry Williams, who is probably one of the nicest men I've ever "cold called" He offered to help out tracking down a couple more of the guys. A couple were a lot harder, like Garry Stevens, who we never found, and when I phoned a couple of the numbers I had for him, the phone was slammed down!! No-one else admitted to even knowing him, let alone knowing where he might be. It was a smashing night, and the stories were amazing, like Lionel Martin and Barry Williams telling about when one had the ball and wasn't doing anything with it, they'd pass to the other and say "ok, you have a go!!" They really were that superior to any other midfield combo in the league. And of course, when the subject turned to Nobby, the stories just flowed, Jimmy Williams was telling of when Nobby was camped outside his house, he thought it was the bailiffs! and as he was telling the story, his mobile phone rang and then stopped. Jimmy just looked to the heavens and said "thanks Nobby!!"

We would be delighted for you to organise it on behalf of the Trust. We will support you as much as we can but as you may appreciate there is much to do with the Perdiswell project (for which, incedently, we need as many people to get involved as possible). However I'm sure you know enough people to give you a hand with the evening. Niels

I've got a copy open in front of me of the 78/79 players that were contacted back in 2004, when we did this last (25th anniversary).
The players I and Jem spoke to (ie had working phone numbers for at the time) are Graham Allner Jim Cumbes Kenny Lawrence Lionel Martin Graham Newton Nippy Norm Malcolm Phelps Ralph Puncheon Dave Roberts Barry Williams (who is still in touch with Jimmy Williams)
At the time, I/we got no answer from Gary Stevens, Kevin Tudor, Kevin Rose, Barry Lowe or Kevin Deehan.
John Barton was contactable by other means at the time.
I've also got all the Worcester News headlines scanned from that season, and an existing PPT with the "main story" in.

Jem might even have a copy of the PPT with the song 'Misty Blue' superimposed over it!
Or was that for Harry Knowles, I cant remember now!

Kevin Deehan was a much underrated member of the squad, and Graham Newton was a great midfielder, only eclipsed by Barry "God" Williams himself.

andy, yes it was that event, with the Misty Blue ppt, which morphed into Time is Tight. Misty Blue covered the pics from the Liverpool and Sheffield games, and other early stuff. Time is Tight covered the 1979 period. Although I think I had the soundtrack seperate to the ppt, I well remember sat in my office trying to get the timings right on the slides!

croc - have sent you an email with attachments. Cant send the PPT at the moment, as as close to 20MB it exceeds my email capacity. We can find another way to sort that ...
