With so may games called off today - virtually the entire non-league programme - how do those 'in the know' see prospects for Boxing Day?
Has rain been lighter in this area, with Kiddy's game today being one of very few to go ahead?

Game will be fine, covers are on so any water on top will drain away into the trenches made either side.
Covers are coming off at 10.30 on Boxing Day.
According to the Met Office App we are only due light showers on Xmas Eve and possibly one on Xmas Day.
Apart from that no rain due and temperatures are good also.

The covers aren't being put on as temperatures are fine and if left on the water will soak though and leave us with a waterlogged pitch as previously proven a few weeks ago.

The covers are frost covers, not rain covers, so I hope they're not on. With this rain, we are at the mercy of the elements and the drainage. So long as the surface water has somewhere to go, it'll be ok I'm sure. We could always get Dave Boddy down there, stand him on the centre spot, and get him to dry out the pitch with the hot air that comes out of his mouth, and any other orifice he tends to speak out of!

Given the monsoon we have had so far today ("light showers" - that's a laugh!) I ain't quite so certain about Boxing Day.
We're paddling in it in Lower Broadheath. When will it end? Just measured the water in the well and the water table is at 22", so there ain't anywhere for the water to go.

Tim, you're right, thats the problem, the ground is full of water already, it wont take anymore at the moment. There will be a lot of water sweeping down from Merrimans Hill. There is a lot more rain due today and tomorrow.

Irrigation being applied to the pitch?

went down the lane yesterday and I didn't see any covers being used
the pitch looked perfectly playable apart from the corner by the tunnel, I'm sure a bit of forking will do the trick for this small section
apparently it was looked at by a local referee who deemed it on Christmas eve playable and without the prospect of frost and only minimal rain compared to what we have had then hopefully the game will be on with a perfect pitch for a local derby!!!!!
If the club need any volunteers to assist then please let us know via the web site

I've spent the afternoon on the pitch putting slits into the surface to allow any rain we get overnight to soak away without affecting the pitch.

ta677 your dedication is amazing, thank you so much for all the good work, not just today while everyone else was enjoying the Xmas festivities, but all though the season the pitch has looked superb. We shall all be very grateful to you tomorrow. Merry Xmas and thanks again.

Massive Xmas thanks to the hard working volunteers who keep this club from going under. The ground staff are typical of the good people who are now working behind the scenes to make football happen at SGL. All things being equal (which they rarely are, and a call from the States might change things) I will get down tomorrow, to see a few old friends.

Does this image mean that we have to lie down to watch the match on Boxing Day?

We shall all be very grateful to you tomorrow. Merry Xmas and thanks again. I echo those comments - ground staff the unsung heroes that are taken for granted but not here! I am convinced that the dedicated work on the pitch will start to pay dividends in results as we enter this critical stage of the season. Brooksider is also right to remind us at this time of year of the dedication of everyone else working for the club in other areas behind the scenes. I will be following today's match from afar by the magic of technology so finally thanks to the forum for keeping exiled supporters up-to-date with what is going on and of course our very own Match of the Day team who have done a terrific job with the match highlights.

City losing 1-0;Tigers goal a lucky deflection?
Former having chances, but ours deflected over. The ball just won't go in...

How did we fail to win today? Mills man of the match which was effectively him vs the Gloucester keeper with the rest a supporting cast, with the keeper winning. Patterson had his best game IMO. Entertaining if nothing else. Finally, credit to the groundstaff, pitch excellent considering the recent weather.

AAAAAAARRRRRGHHH!!!! Frustrating to lose today. Firstly, I thought we really missed Rob Elvins in midfield where we needed a ball winner and as a result Tom Thorley was unable to shine and dominate play as he has done in other games; secondly, I disagree that Patterson had a good game, he never really threatened or linked up the play to any good effect, we looked far more fluid when Danny Glover came on and he must surely start in place of Patterson on Saturday; finally I thought Millsy was outstanding again, effectively our sole and main attacking threat throughout the game. On the whole we we unlucky to get at least a point BUT once again these are the games that we need to win to be in with a chance of a Play Off place. We can atone by winning on Saturday and giving Gloucester the beating at Cheltenham next week that they should have had today.

I thought that that was a comfortable, professional and composed performance. We got lucky with the goal but you didn't really look like scoring.

We did well. Defended solidly through the middle of the park, let your wide men have extra room so it didn't stretch us. Shame we couldn't find a second but when you defend as well as we did today you don't always need one. Decent piece in the program about Colin Gordon too. I was talking to Karl Bayliss (our old striker) a few months ago about surprisingly bad ex-City players and he said, "I'll tell you who else was shite........."

Agree with most of the above - very frustrating, with their keeper having a blinder.
Gloucester support was vocal but why so few?? Used to bring 200/300, but there were less than Halifax(100).
On the pitch we don't seem to have a plan B. Mills looks our only threat at the moment and once they doubled up on him, the second half just didn't happen. Why not use the right more or central areas - Symons and partners are feeding off relative scraps at the moment.
