Well with 3 pre season matches gone and a big one on Tuesday I reckon Carl will have a pretty good idea who he wants to keep and who he will move on Any opinions from what I have seen mine would be a squad of 19 containing
GK (2) Thompson Sargeant
Def (7) Whitehead Weir Deeney Elvins Khan Brooks Rowe
Mid (6) Thorley Reece Denny Mills Edwards Birley J Smith
Fwd (4) Glover Symo Hunt Taylor

Not sure where Hunt was on Saturday but if he has moved on then he will probably go for Green

JIIG - Matt Breeze looks like a strong candidate to sign, as does Denny.
Carl and Matt are always keen to cover the bases, and therefore I would think more likely to look at right-back cover than a new central defender. Note Shabs has been playing at centre-half (also gives l-b cover for Deeney), and we have Rob Elvins and possibly Lee Ayres in there with Rowe/Whitehead. Thought Haynes looked fair defensively on Saturday, but may need to strengthen his distribution from attacking positions.
Ben Hunt trialled for Gloucester on Saturday. We havent seen much of Danny Smith upfront yet.
Today's WN says no hurry to finalise the squad, and cant bring them all in.

Good point, missed Breeze off, Thought he had signed at the weekend to? Haynes looks too lazy for me. Both Saturday and at Stratford he was not willing to track back after a missed tackle or losing the ball. Looks skilful enough and willing to go forward but too open and lazy for me at the back. Not sure about Ayres too. He looked out of his depth Vs WBA altho he is very flexible, works hard and would be willing to give him another chance. Like the look of Brooks, made things difficult for Macklin and kept him fairly quiet whilst Jackson ran us around Saturday and think he could play a role in midfield similar to Elvins too if asked? These were just my initial thoughts and totally a personal opinion

One things is for sure, we will score goals this year, its all about stopping them scoring against us. 3 clean sheets in a row is good but we need to be a little tighter. Having said that weve yet to use our strongest back four and Thompson together. Should note that my faves for the title are now Altrincham, theyve signed goalscoring machine Damian Reeves and i fully expect them to fly up a little like Hyde.

Carl makes a good point in todays WN (print edition). Talks about turning in a goal difference that is improved by 35-40.
That is a combination of the two sides of the game, obviously. Conceding 15-20 less, and scoring 15-20 more.
Indication was that the early PSFs have been more aimed at the defensive side of the game, as that is the easier side of the game to address.

Totally agree, and I think we all know that there are plenty of goals in Symo, Gloves and Taylor. If Breeze signs then I can see him getting a few along with Reece. So the focus at the moment should be to tighten up those areas and I think with signing Thompson on he will have a good command of the back line. Even the returning Shabs will strenghten us !

I would agree that there is the potential for plenty of goals in Symo, Gloves and Taylor - provided that what could be a largely new midfield works out the way to best supply them.
Can see the logic in having targetted someone like Sandwith, one of whose strengths has been in the delivery of set-pieces. On Saturday's evidence, not sure that we yet have someone who can deliver a good corner. Time for that to be worked on, though.

For me gk positions is up for grabs Probably go with glyn for his experience! Def think we have enough options there midfield I'd start with Tom and rob elvins still not sur on who out wide Edwards still complicates it a bit for me breeze looks to iratic! Forward gota go with symo and glover, taylor don't look fit in my opinion but has a gd impact and green I went to Corby last year and he scored a great goal and scored an important goal at Harrogate we need four strikers so maybe them four so think we are looking good so far!

Would go with Mills in midfield to both deliver the corners and free kicks too www.worcestercityfc.co.uk/index.php/component/k2/item/198-mills-rejoins-whilst-brown-departs

Wow.
If the midfield is also to be boosted by Breeze and Denny, as seems likely, then it is a midfield with the pace and creativity that we have not seen the likes of before.

If Denny,Breeze and Mills all manage to convince Carl and Matt to get contracts and sign, add to that Reece, Thorley and Birley and that is as strong a midfield as you are going to see. Hope Reece controls his language a little better too as we don''t want him picking up yellow cards like KoC did last season. 1

Yep, have just noticed that the announcement about Mills is not that he has re-joined (ie signed), but is back to seek to win a contract.
Possibly in competition with others also seeking to gain contracts in midfield (ie Mills, Denny, Breeze, Edwards, Green) - maybe we can take 3 of them, with Rob Elvins also able to play there, as well as Tyler if we have a right-back starter?
We also have Josh Smith, of course.

I for one hope he (Millsy) wins a contract and we can keep the majority of the squad. Blimey this is going to be one hell of a season! I've never known such anticipation with the fans at the "Lane" before.
Come on City!

Would seem that Greg Mills has played around 3 PSFs for Woking, newly promoted to the Conf Nat, before their management said in the paper that they werent going to offer him anything (though, presumably, they told Greg that directly!).

One name I haven't seen touted on this thread is Lee Ayres: I really rate the bloke. He was awesome against WBA and looked back to his best. If we can afford him I'd sign him, but the problem is a player of his class is surely looking for regular first-team football?

Why aren't we signing players for huge fees who turn out to need imminent knee surgery - or a new hip replacement - like we did in the "good old days"? Doesn't the management realise this is WCFC?

I can exclusively reveal Carl was seen, allegedly, at a certain 'derby' friendly match last night in N.Worcs last night... Good, seriously, to know the net is being cast both far and near.
