Its not Racist, he didnt mention ethnic origin, surely pointing out he doesnt like illegal imigrants is more xenophobia than racism ??

Rather than whether it's technically racist or whatever, I think it's the "kill them like call of duty" people have a problem with...

There's nothing racist in the comment, but it's just the most stupid brain dead comment, is this guy just thick as pig s***?? I mean "f**k off out of ARE country" Ignorant t**t! This guy is 28 for gods sake, and he hasn't the brains of a 12 year old.

Not a racist remark in there !!
But Gloucesteeshire Police are now investigating as well according to BBC.
Can Smith get the Worcester News in trouble for making him out to be a racist when he clearly made no such comment ??
Why is it that this makes the front page but yearsof mismanagement and the killing of our club hardly even made print ??

I agree with what's been said above; how can it be racist to insult/threaten illegal immigrants? After all they could be of any creed or race. It's the killing bit that's gonna get him into trouble. I've seen people sent down for similar threats, except that it's hardly a threat against a specific person.
Trouble with most footballers is that their brains are in their boots.
Best way to deal with this? Admonish him, get the club to apologise (again!) on his behalf and then quietly let the fuss die down. Most folk will have forgotten by Friday.
Oh - and illegal immigrants? Exactly that: illegal. They should be returned from whence they came. Not to be confused with legal immigrants, which - owing to our EC membership - are many in number, and if the Home Secretary has anything to do with it will be even more in number.

Can Smith get the Worcester News in trouble for making him out to be a racist when he clearly made no such comment ?? The Worcester News, like all professional news media publications, put the word Racist in quotation marks, that's their get out clause. Next time you read any headlines, particulary in the Mail and Express just take a count of the number of times you see 'news' in quotes which reduces it to gossip.

A worker from the EU isn't really an immigrant at all, in the same way as I wasn't considered an immigrant when working in Germany. Its freedom to work across European borders, the problem is of course, its easier for European Union members to work in the UK because the likelihood of them knowing the lingo is far more. More fool many of us for not being able to capitalize on the European languages. I agree that illegal immigrants should be sent back from whence they came, that'll hopefully rid the Capital of all of the Aussies and New Zealanders working cash in hand in bars, who overstay their visas !! And all those Chinese food workers over here!

Why is it that this makes the front page but yearsof mismanagement and the killing of our club hardly even made print ?? Because the Worcester News is a shoddy sensationalist rag. Kevin Ward seriously got the hump when I criticised his journos for sensationalising some girl who didnt win X Factor rather than look into the mismanagement of WCFC. Although it might have had more to with them being scaredy-cats after being "warned off" I doubt Smith can do anything about it, he doesnt seem to have the brains to anyway. He should stick to football, he's actually pretty good at that!

Ohh Dear...Are You Two Still At It ? Its funny in a way that a Nuneaton fan, Hullablue gets mentioned in the article yet according to his twitter he didnt give the Worcester News permission to do so !! I agree the comments Smith made were in appropriate but at least he apologised more than once if he caused anyone offence. I think the Worcester News jumped on it quickly after being tipped off and decided they would send it straight out to print. Although i love the fact two complete plonkers have posted on our facebook page in threatening behaviour. One bloke even said he would contact the clubs sponsors to tell them what sort of club and player they sponsor !! They are just as bad if not worse !!

It's worth pointing out that journalists are by far the biggest users of Twitter. They must follow hundreds of local people hoping to find news stories. Lee clearly had little idea as to how social media works, let alone how certain journalists work, maybe he has a better idea now.
In my view the WN have let themselves down by making this a story at all, let alone their front page. In the current climate you would hope that they would want to support our club.
I agree with what many here have said already - to imply that these remarks make Lee a racist is one giant leap and I'm glad that other City fans have seen it as such.

Totally agree jupu, really cheap gutter journalism by the Worcester News. Whats more annoying is that the Police have got themselves involved! I wish they were that active when your house is broken into, or your car damaged, or your allotment trashed!! There's a big story around the future of the football club, but the Worcester News just don't want to know about that.

What everyone must remember is that Journalists of a certain kind rely on lies for stories. It is their stock in trade.

The Worcester News have really let themselves down by sensationalising what is essentially a non-story. This is a semi-pro player, not some Premiership International star, who expressed a view. It wasn't clever and not necessarily to the liking of all, but not abusive towards anyone personally, and certainly not racist as incorrectly headlined in the WN. As for the police getting involved, don't waste taxpayers money investigating comments made about people who don't pay taxes.
It's great to see a bad news story about the Club makes the front page yet the fact the players are raising money for charity for Movember was hidden away somewhere in the depths of the sports section.
Richard Vernalls must have been looking for a big scoop to justify his position at the WN.

While I agree in general with the majority of comments, aren't we being a tad sanctimonious? in the light of the John Terry (and others) allegation, isn't Lee Smith's brainless tweet newsworthy in a provincial backwater? It has certainly provoked more comment on this board than the splendid 3-0 win against Altrincham, which has passed without a single mention!

Apologies, I realise there is a thread about the Alty game, but it wasn't started until a few days after the match.

Using John Terry as an example is poor..so so poor !! He actually is a 'racist' (get out clause used, in typical fashion).
He was actually caught on camera making a comment which was racist. Nothing of what Lee Smith has said is racist !!
That is why this thread has many peoples views on it !!

I think Sepp Blatters comments yesterday were utterly disgusting, and went as close as you could get to condoning racist comments on a football pitch - so long as you shake hands afterwards!

Blimey, was that the mitigation? I love the pathetic attempts by the FIFA to clear up the matter with a photo of Blatter cuddling a black man on the FIFA website, that'll appease all the Asians, Chinese, Arabic footballers - now its black and white vs the rest!! If he really is so old that he can't be trusted to open his mouth without putting his foot in it, then why is he trusted to run FIFA?

All is not as it seems with that black guy's smile. You can't see Blatter's left hand which is clamped around his testicles.
