Nowt to do with Panorama or the Sunday Times.
FIFA is such a corrupt organisation that the Russian Billionaires were able to purchase the 2018 World Cup months ago.
Sepp has to think of his retirement fund after all...

Everything to do with Panorama, England would have at least got into the final 3. The worst bid! The biggest failures!

Knocked out in first round!!! Thank you BBC!! Knee jerk reaction, we were never going to win the bid. 95% of the games are crap, the tickets are overpriced (even if you have the right brand of credit card) and it would cost us taxpayers to host it. Good riddance, I'm glad its gone to racist, authoritarian Russia I am sure Cameroon & Ghana will receive a warm welcome. Just hope the FA show some balls and tell the world what really goes on at FIFA instead of leaving it to Andrew Jennings.

Not a knee jerk reaction at all. I'm not talking about winning the bid, try reading!! We got knocked out in the very first round! If you're bidding for business (and this was big business for the whole of the UK, and from what I understand, the most profitable bid on the table !) you don't f**k off the decision makers, or their friends, prior to a decision. By all means f**k them off afterwards, but not before! And furthermore, the taxpayer will now (if they havent been already) have3 to pick up the cost of a failed bid! That was a masterstroke by Putin, staying away saying he didnt want to be there out of respect for FIFA, so they could make their decision without pressure! The total opposite of the England bid, and he even managed to highlight the actions of the British press in a sublte but bloody obvious way. Does he give a f**k about FIFA? of course not! But he had this one handed to him on a plate!

The bid team had already admitted they were in last place before the Sunday Times & Panorama exposed what we already suspected / knew.
Both winners today have been judged to be 'high risk' by FIFA themselves, yet they get chosen.
The taxpayer, you & me will be financially better off by us not hosting the world cup.
Get over it and move on.

Move on from where? I dont give a monkeys where the World cups held, but if we are going to bid for it, I don't really like seeing this country's bid being the laughing stock. Putin must be pissing himself laughing now. And if I had a choice as to where my tax money goes, I'd prefer it going to a World Cup rather than something like a trident replacement! Don't assume the tax payer (whoever he is!) doesnt want to pay towards a World Cup.

You would prefer your money to go to a corrupt organisation instead of the health service or schools? Hopefully we will find out in due course why the bid was a farce.

It already goes to a corrupt organisation, the government, and it won't filter its way into either the health service or schools! Will there now be a rethink on the public sector cuts now that we've got so much more money by not hosting the World Cup? I don't think so. I can't wait for my tax rebate now

The whole process was flawed from start to finish; I don't think we were ever going to win.
Let's hope (i) Russia can make some headway in eliminating racism amongst its football supporters & (ii) The World Cup deflects them from a re-emerging militarism.
As for Qatar - stadia that are going to end up in Equitorial Guinea/Chad etc?!!

totally agree, we were never going to win, but to have your bid scuppered by your own so called "transparent press" even before its had the chance to lose on its own merits just beggars belief. The investigation by Panorama was done months ago, so its been sat on by the BBC until just days before the bids were presented. Why?

The investigation by Panorama was done months ago, so its been sat on by the BBC until just days before the bids were presented. Why? Andrew Jennings only received his documentary proof in October. Panorama would also have to wait for the outcome of the FIFA investigation into the Sunday Times story as it could impact on their programme. If anything it was the Sunday Times story which unsettled the Commitee members the most as many would have had similar conversations. I understand there are more 'allegations' on the way.

Only recieved documentary proof in October? What about? The ISL story dates back to 2001 and was settled out of court by FIFA in 2008. Jennings doucmentary evidence was based on payments made in the 1990s, bribes which were not even illegal in Switzerland, so no laws broken. All this was common knowledge and documented by the press and the court papers in Zug in 2008. I used to work in Zug Any news that Jack Warner is corrupt is old news. It didnt need to be broadcast a few days before the bids were presented, unless of course you're looking for maximum audience. Why would they have to wait for a FIFA investigation into itself? Thats like turkey's voting for Xmas! FIFA is corrupt, has always been corrupt, and has no reason to change. Live with it, move on. Andrew Jennings has just regurgitated an old story.

If profit was the only motive then the tournment would probably held on a 12-year cycle of England, Germany and the USA. That FIFA want the World Cup to go to countries have not held it before is not a bad thing. However I think that FIFA is always fearful that at the end of a bid evaluation process one of the bids from their favoured non-established countries will not provide them with the confidence that that country can actually pull the thing off. Therefore they need a fall-back and this is what England, Spain/Portugal, Holland/Belgium, USA, Australia, Japan and Korea were there for (though unfortunately those bid teams were probably unaware of that). They were just an insurance policy against Russia's or Qatar's bids not passing muster. If FIFA was honest it would tell the established countries that they are only really bidding for the role of standby host. If we had known that we could have put the bid's details on a powerpoint presentation and emailed it to Zurich.
One thing that did get on my goat last week was FA people complaining that FIFA delegates had given them their word that they would vote for England. In business (and that is what football is) never believe anything anyone says. I am sure Prince William is a nice guy and if you are sitting with him having a chat over a glass of Courvoisier of course you are going to say you love England just out of courtessy.
Lastly, it might be worth having a chaotic World Cup to put FIFA's house in order.

I assumed the reason Putin didn't go to Zurich was obvious: he didn't need to. He knew the deal was already stitched up.
But, why, in any case should England be given the tournament again. We hosted it in 1966. That's our lot for at least 100 years!

I agree with Warwick, a deal is never done until its signed, I dont believe anyone who says I'm getting business verbally, it not worth the paper its not written on!
and Tim, your logic would hold up if France, Germany, Italy, Mexico hadnt all held it twice, Mexico twice in just 16 years!

Mexico twice in just 16 years! But don't forget that Mexico's second hosting of the tournament in 1986 was for the very reason warwickwcfc said: Colombia had been awarded the tournament but problems caused them to withdraw so Mexico was asked to hold the competition instead.

True, but Italy? France? Germany? There is clear precedent for having more than one World Cup in your country. And Mexico werent asked to hold the competition in place of Columbia, they had to bid for it alongside the USA and a couple of others

Boddy is an enigma, a man who deals in facts but lives a dream, and a man who makes tough decisions but never makes mistakes - its just impossible. However, I see him fitting perfectly alongside Jack Warner, Sepp Blatter and Chuck Blazer!

The bloke got caught with his hands in the till and although he tries to bluff it out, he blames Jennings, BBC etc for outing him. Which is worse, critical press or racism? critical press or stoning people to death? Follow the money.
