It will be a strong team and expect a " decent crowd " as its only the senior cup

I wonder why these county cups still go on, the only people they benefit is the county FA, the clubss don't really want them, but they have to play in them.

I've spoken to managers and directors at various clubs, not just in Worcestershire either!

But these gives small clubs in birmingham/manchester to play against them even though they will not be the strongest teams it will generate income

How often does that happen? not enough to make it viable. Thank goodness we no longer play in the Birmingham Senior Cup and the Welsh Cup. The cost of playing at Caersws, Maesteg, Taffs Well, outweigh the income from a hopeful big game. In 1990 we played away at Wrexham (20 years ago tomorrow!) I was there! Freezing Tuesday evening - the crowd? 892! In Manchester the small clubs dont get to play the likes of Manchester United, or even Bury or Oldham, as they play in a different competition. In recent years the club have struggled to get many more than 300 to WSC games, last year 290 saw us lose to Harriers at SGL. That would have lost the club money that night.

Jem
Some bigger teams do play in their county cups and help the smaller ones. I saw Liverpool away at Ashton Town last season in the Liverpool Senior Cup and I know Wolves and Villa have both sent teams to Stourbridge in the BSC this season. In the case of Ashton even though it was Liverpool reserves they still got over 10 times their normal gate !!
Problem we have is no league teams !! Surely a better competition would be the 3 counties competition ! That way you could include Hereford, Cheltenham, Gloucester etc and increase the chance of bigger gates/derbys. Problem is whoever wins our game next week will play the rest of the games against teams below them so no big games !!

Oh yes, it does happen, we played West Brom and beat them a few years back (away from home in front of a crowd of 413) then we played Birmingham in the semi-final at SGL, crowd was 380! Its hardly surprising that that was the last Birmingham Senior Cup game!

I might head down anyway. I hope there is a bit of atmospheres at aways. SGL was dead on monday. Apart from the mumbling dude who sings on his own.

Dave Boddy was there?[/quote) I'm at a conference in darkest Lincolnshire - one of the delegates is Dave Boddy. Not the same one I hasten to add. I haven't enlightened this one as to the infamous significance of his name in a midlands cathedral city!
