1-0 up, 1-2 down and a missed penalty(by Danks), the turning point? Why are we so **** at home? The away record I can take, though it's far from remarkable....

I think this is going to be a long season of consolidation, I was hoping we'd get as many points as possible before we start playing on cabbage patches, and the free flowing football has to go out the window.

Game of two halves I thought. Shame we didn't get anything from the game but I was pleased with the performance and entertainment value again. I couldn't pick anybody out who had a bad game - Birley, especially in the first half was outstanding again.

Can't help feeling a bit deflated by the result today, especially as we were so good in the first half.
On the other hand, the football we are playing is so much more entertaining than what we have had to put up with for the last two or three seasons, possibly longer. I hope the entertainment value will keep the casual punters coming as I thought 758 was another good crowd today.

First half we should of put the game to bed, workington were awful in the first half, i was shocked at danksys pen ( thought he would of smashed it ) birley was imense. he has improved so much, glover seems to have gone downhill or is it me? we will play worse this season and win a game, if we would of played crap and lost i would of been mad but we werent crap and workington must be wondering how they got 3 points

The lads were gutted to lose yesterday, so was I. Matt Birley and Simon Richman were outstanding, everyone worked hard, especially in the first half. The game changed when their no 17 came on, he was around the pitch like a flipping whippet. That and Mark Danks refusing to share were the lads downfall.
I just hope they can put this behind them and look forward to the next match.

I share the sentiments of at least two posters above. First half we were great and Workington didn't get a look in. Second half we fell into the trap of playing to the opposition's tune, hoofing the ball instead of our passing game (or was that deliberate tactics on their part to stop us playing our passing game?). Danks's penalty miss was the turning point and if it looks like Glover has gone off the boil it's because he isn't getting the service - especially from Danks. Birley was the man of the match for me. What a pity Mark Clyde was missing, but thank God we had Ryan Clarke, another quality player. Like Mark I couldn't "help feeling a bit deflated by the result".
With Boston ending Alfreton's 100% record away from home, and in front of their own fans it's going to be a long 90 minutes next Saturday afternoon. Perhaps CH should start looking for another goalkeeper; Sandercombe just stays rooted to his line all the time and the result is free-kicks into our box and corners against us always look dangerous.

Agree with Tim, Sandercombe needs to learn from the mistakes so far and start taking a bit of control in the box. There have been numerous close shaves this season with long balls or crosses causing confusion between keeper and defender as the defender expects the keeper to collect the ball. He seems to be afraid to come off his line in case he makes a mistake, result - mistakes are made anyway.

I think Sandercombe is a good shot stopper and would prefer him to Meredith every day of the week, if jake had still be in we would not have won a game this year! Did you read the programme notes around his performance on crosses ;D

Danks will not be his provider, he expects everyone to provide for him. Glover wanted to take the Pen on Saturday but Danks said no it's mine. No argument but what a poor poor penalty. The service to the front two has not been good, Birley has worked tirelessly but his final ball has not been good enough, Tom Thorley crosses well but never seems to find a city head, he does tackle back well in midlfield and gets on with his job quietly. I think on Saturday we missed Cartwright giving us the width and quality ball into the middle altho' Richman had a very good game too. In fact did anyone really have a bad game? A very dissapointing result but not a bad performance overall. As mentioned somewhere else, we outplayed them first half but second half was another story and we should have killed it in the first 45 minutes and with the penalty.

A poor penalty indeed. In fact, I can only think of one taken down the lane which was worse

Danks is too greedy, that was the main issue yesterday. I think Danksy is doing a great job with 6 goals so far, he may keep the ball instead of passing sometimes but thats life i would rather him in the team and not at all.

9 games into the season, mid-table, and probably where the team will look to finish. But to stay mid-table I think the team will need to be better than it is. Carl needs to make some tough decisions now. I remember one season when George was manager, and we were top of the league, but finished 5th or 6th, and George said his big mistake was not strengthening the squad when they were top of the league!! Danksy will always be greedy, Mark Owen was greedy, all Dansky wants to do is score goals, he'd run tap in a ball which was already goalbound, just to claim it as his! Thats what you want from a striker!!

Greed isn't the worst thing in the world from a striker, but it needs to be for the good of the team. There have been a couple of times when I felt Glover was in a better position to possibly score whe he has gone for goal himself (but not Just Danks might I add!) For the sake of the team if the ball had been passed he could have got the acclaim of an assist in a goal rather than a shot on/off target but no goal. Rather him (Danks) in the team than out and rather Danks anywhere than Wilding!

Amen to the comment re. Wilding. Perhaps the regular penalty-taker should be one of 2 or 3, none of whom are forwards??

Shouldnt the regular penalty taker be one of one? Absolutely; and it should be Tom Thorley - when he was the regular penalty taker at Stafford you always felt confident he would score. He's not the sort of character, though, who will grab the ball and say 'I'm taking it'. The manager needs to sort that out beforehand.

As I mentioned before, Danks grabbed the ball , Glover made a polite enquiry 'are you taking it' the reply of 'You bet' gave no on else a doubt (or the chance) of who was taking it. Hopefully now the issue has raised it's head Carl will have resolved it and I would agree with the Thorley choice if that is the way he decides to go.
