I see on the Club's website that they are advertising various sponsorship deals.
This will reach only a small number of people. Is anyone actively trying to sell the sponsorship deals to the people that will take up such offers, i.e. businesses?
Or is it the the usual thing from St. Georges's Lane which has prevailed over the last number of years. Here is what we are offering come and talk to us, whilst we sit back and wait instead of going out to speak to the people that matter and sell the wares.

I'm sure Rich will do as well as anyone could to bring in new sponsorship. Good luck to him.
'Years of neglect' you rightly identify birdfeeder; and all the time we had a marketing/business supremo as chairman/board member - says it all really.

Plus we had a solicitor in charge of negotiating the contracts for the sale and purchase of SGL and NW. What could possibly go wrong?

Tony There is now a team of people who will be trying to get sponsorship and we have a plan! We have taken our time to finalise what we are going to do. We have come up with a small number of sponsorship packages which we think can be sold to potential sponsors. We are also making a few other changes which should be evident at the start of the season. All Season ticket holders and sponsors will be invited to the Pre-Season open evening where they will be able to have their photo taken with the whole team. As soon as we know the date this will be publicised and it won't cost you a penny, it will be a thank you from the Club. Rich

I'm doing it with a few other people as a team so we are hoping that people and firms still want to sponsor us for next season. There are quite a few ways of sponsoring City next season and we cater for every budget starting at just £10! All details are on the website.

Its a nice idea, but its not that easy. Someone will have to catalogue everything, then set up the online commerce software, maintain it, and also manage the fulfilment. It can end up costing more than it makes.

Rich, great effort with this, hopefully a big boost for next season. One question though(or it may just be me) I can't see anything for less than £50. Are the £10 opportunities missing or have I missed them ?

Rich,
What's the difference in the package between "Main Match Day Sponsor" & "Match Day Sponsor" other than the £20.00 price difference?

Post by richwidd on Jun 14, 2010 9:04:37 GMT
Suv
The difference is that "main" sponsor would be first when read out over PA, in the program, website etc. Other than that there isn't any. SO EG City V Gloucester, match sponsored by "Specsavers", other sponsors "Tunnellvision".
That allows us to take more than one sponsor, should the occasion arise.
Which game do you want to sponsor?

So who's doing the fulfillment? Order processing? Stock management? Who's catalogueing the stock? Who's managing back orders? and short orders? How about handling returns? Paypal is just a payment option ( Google checkout would be better ) You need a shopping cart like Zencart or BazaarBuilder. You need someone to maintain it pretty much full time, as once an order is placed, it needs picking, packing and posting, assuming you've got it in stock. If you haven't? Its all doable, but it needs investment, resourcing, and and a fair bit of set up.

Yes, let's not over stretch people who already seem to be working their socks off. And if you think about it, City's fan base is not very big; the vast majority of supporters who want to purchase merchandise will be at SGL at some point in the season and can do so in person.

Paypal is just a payment gateway unless you want to get seriously involved in coding etc the better option I would suggest is using RomanCart as a cart system and then they could use paypal, google checkout or any other gateway to process the payment. RomanCart has a free account with limitations though but still very useful to get off the ground with. It provides a product manager which allows a catalogue to be created which keeps tabs on stock levels and informs when a threshold is reached as well as other necessary items.
As jcp says this is not as simple as it first sounds abd will need some considerable legwork to get it going but from my experience RC does make a big difference over doing it alone with just a pay now button.

Yep Romancart will do the job fine. There is a ptoential halfway house here, some form of click and collect. Using something like Romancart you could browse througth the available items online, place your order, pay for it, and then using a receipt with an order number, you could collect it at the club shop. All the club would have to do is make sure they hold enough stock to cover orders, remove the orders from stock (so they don't sell them to someone else through the shop!) and bag and label each order until collected. You could catalogue every item in the club shop, but only make some available online, so other items are available only from visiting the shop, which could increase the footflow into the shop! The club shop is an area which needs an overhaul in time, it suffered from Boddy's hands all over it. "More shirts? certainly, I'll call Mr Harris now!" But Boddy never mentioned that he was also a Director of the company providing shirts and clothing into the club shop - naughty boy! Hopefully one day it will be run on a commercial basis. Income from the club shop is only around £3k a year.

With your expertise ,this sounds like an ideal job for you,Jem!You could be our very own Arkwright. At least you`d have the power to remove the contract from the Honorary Kit Supplier!(Perks to include seat in Director`s box and a seat at the Conference table)

I just know about the issues relating to setting up commerce platforms as my company provides integrated content management platforms. I havent a clue how its all done, I have no expertise in it at all. But listening to employees of clients, you realise just how resource hungry online shops can be. I think the Honorary Kit Supplier no longer has a contract, and I don't think he ever had one in the first place. I will be asking a question at the AGM though, as to how come the annual report and accounts have never declared the transactions with the club and SportItalia (SWC Merchandise Ltd) of which Mr Boddy was a Director. Catering services to Brenderek Catering Ltd. are correctly declared!
