As the planning permission thread is becoming memory lane, I thought it might be worth starting a thread of our own here with memories of SGL and what it means to each of the members on here I will repeat mine again here I suppose is it like losing a loved one, that family dog who has been with you 14 years and you know that age has got the better of him, you know it is for the best that you let go and put him to his final long sleep, but it is so sad and so hard to let go. Some of the youngsters who have only been watching a few years will love the new stadium, I am sure, and they will gather their own memories, but I know I will always remember Christmas 1970 (Vs Telford who had only just become Telford after being Wellington -we won I think 2-1) , my first game at The Lane with a Grandad who died long ago and many other great memories along the way too....... always the old romantic but at the same time looking forward to reading the news about the on pitch saga's and not who has done what in the board room and the financial mess we are in. OR Is that another rose tinted thought too?

My first game was today. Not a lot of positives to say really, at least I saw some goals I suppose!

Comparing the WCFC of today with the teams of old is a bit like comparing the Sheff.Utd. of Tony Currie with the version that ended up in Div.4..... Which isn't meant as a dig btw.

Haha, I'd guessed that. Maybe you could help me and give me a bit of info on Worcester's history-their best teams and dates/the worse times, classic games, fa cup memories etc etc! I really have no clue but would like to! I've read bits on the internet but not much.

I would never gone to another Blades game after the first few I saw in the mid 1990's, going on that!

I don't feel like losing SGl is like losing a loved one anymore, not unless that loved one has shafted the whole family before dying. I'll miss it, but far less than I used to think I would. I am getting my will changed this year as I don't think the residents of Acacia Drive Worcester will appreciate my ashes being scattered over their block paving! First game was a Southern League cup game against Rugby Town. My memory is vague about it as I was 5, but I do remember that Gerry Hitchens was sent off (although I had no idea who Gerry Hitchens was, or even who he played for), my brother Andrew wet himself on the way home. The minestrone soup my Mum had put in a flask for us was good, so were the blackcurrant and liquorice sweets bought at the shop on the corner.

My first game was on Saturday 6th October 1973. City 0 v Tonbridge 0.
My uncle took me and my two female cousins. We stood below the main stand.
Two things I remember from my baptism at the Lane was that one of the city players was getting a lot of stick from the city fans... they kept referring to him as a 'F*!king Camel'.
The second thing I remember was one of the city players hammered the ball into touch only to pole-axe a female spectator a few yards away from us. This resulted in the apologetic city player receiving a few choice words form the nearby fans, it also ensured my cousins stayed hidden behind my uncle for the rest of the match.
