This is how I see it for Box Day after doing a inspection this afternoon there is still some ice on the pitch, the grounds man will be going in at 6.00am to get the pitch ready he thinks he can get it playable but with a 9.00am pitch inspection it will be touch and go whether we get a game, but my main concern is the terraces which is very slippy in places and I can not see it melting before the inspection,if anybody can get down the Lane for 9.00 with a spade so that if the pitch is given the ok we can clear any ice that might still not have melted.

Looks like the ice problem on the terracing won't be a factor judging by the scene outside at the moment

In fact the terracing is the problem because the sun never got to some bits and its still slippery

It may not have helped if there were more volunteers there. BUT I was shocked at the almost non existance of people willing to help. Where were all of our Directors....... NON, but to his credit Dave Boddy had turned up to help. Even a Newport Director was there. Where were all the Supporters Trust members who are supposed to be helping the club, there was only Rob Creaner & me !!!

Why was it not played at 3, this would have been a 1000 plus gate, The police managed to cope with Telford on a Monday night!! well fed up now.

Dont forget us that were there from 8am also, im not sure why we didnt switch it to newport if their pitch was playable and then play the home fixture on new years day, the police moved it forward for safety and they (the club) tried moving it back to a 1.30 ko but the local ref decided it was not going to be playable

It may not have helped if there were more volunteers there. BUT I was shocked at the almost non existance of people willing to help. To be fair, the only request from the club for help was posted on this board at 8.50pm last night, asking for persons to come to the club with shovels at 9.00 this morning. At 9.05 the game was called off - didn't give many volunteers much time to get out of their beds after a long hard xmas day and mosey on down to the lane. One has to wonder whether the game would have been on with a 3.00pm start - if that was a police call then it is very disappointing indeed. Can they organise a bucket collection for us at Sixways this afternoon. Sounds like there will be loads of them there!

Where were all the Supporters Trust members who are supposed to be helping the club, there was only Rob Creaner & me !!! I got there a bit late as I was collecting grit for the terraces but you have to understand that people have been so alienated and disolutioned by the previous administration that it is going to take some hard work, and time, to bring people back into the fold and create some structure in the club. All this directors turning up/travelling on the coach/pressing flesh in the boardroom is a red herring. We have to build teams around the directors who deal with the practical aspects of the club and leave the directors time to actually manage the club as a business, and try and dig us out of this huge hole that the incompetence of others have left us in. It will take some time but that has to be the aim. As for the pitch, my good friend the groundsman said that about a third of it was still rock hard. He was of the opinion that it might have had a chance of thawing if there was a 3 o'clock kick off but he didn't say it with a great deal of confidence.

Well that will all change now I presume niels, I've no doubt that people like yourself who apparently wanted little or nothing to do with the club while certain characters were still involved, will be applying for Directorships now that DB has resigned.

If volunteers had been requested to arrive on Boxing Day at 9.00am a few days ago, when it was obvious that help would be required and not at 20.45pm on Christmas Day when most people aren't reading message boards, then I and maybe a few others would have volunteered. The decision to move the kick-off time from 3.00pm to 12.30pm because of the "Worcester Warriors" factor is another major influence on this mornings decision. IMO the match today would probably have been played if the original 3.00pm kick off time had not been changed because of the perceived "exodus" of fans going to watch the Warriors.

Sorry Jimbo I think you may have the wrong person. I have at no point said any of the above. As for directorships, read what I have said above and you will have your answer.

I agree with you suv, the point I am trying to make is that the Trust are supposed to be there to help the club & with a little effort surely a few text messages or phone calls would have got far more people to help out.
I'm sure you're right that the match may well have gone ahead if it was a 3pm kick off BUT I think you'll find the decision was also based on Newport police advice because Newport were opening their bar early to attract some income from their away supporters I wonder if we're doing that New Years day

Whether it's the police advice or the Warriors factor etc etc, I'm a believer that with the WCFC history of a part frozen pitch on a regular basis a 3.00pm kick off time is essential at this time of the year.

I knew nothing about all this until I logged onto this message board today. Sorry but I have better things to do on Christmas Day.
Had we been asked to come down and help a few days ago, then I and others would surely have been there.
Was really looking forward to the game too now Boddy has gone.

Reminds me of last season when Hampton and Franchise Borough United Region had a bucket collection before our game there, so we all took a bucket. Sad, aren't I ? Actually, don't answer that........(but cue jimbo)

12.30 or 3.00 kick off would make no difference. The strip running the length of the main stand will be frozen solid, as it has been in every similar circumstance for the 40 years I've been watching the City. It's just one of those things.

He's right, all we could have hoped for was that air temperature got high enough through the night to thaw out the ground without the help of the sun. It didnt happen. And the Board made the right decision on the covers too - finally some solid financial decisions being made at Board level, well done to Hampson and Panter for taking the emotion out of a decision, not an easy thing to do, and of course many people will be walking in sunshine now thinking that they should be watching a football match at SGL, but it wasnt going to happen and throwing money at the problem wasnt the answer. Ironically, this to me feels like progress, and coupled with the news of Boddy's departure, maybe, just maybe, we can dare to hope.
