Yes but if we had some decent midfielders!! Its like awarding Harold Shipman the award in the medical team with a midfield line up of Crippen, Kevorkian, Holmes and Hazard!!

Mickey Hazard was a half decent midfielder. Wilding is a whole hearted performer who deserves the awards. He's POM for the current City team - no one is trying to compare him with Barry Williams or Lionel Martin!

He's good when he puts in the effort. Which is not often enough in my book.

An interesting thought, if these players are putting in the effort, then does that mean that our present league position is a true reflection of the teams ability. If they are not putting in the effort, is this a reflection on their ability? or on the ability of the manager to get them to play to their full ability? We are half way through the season, and something is definitely not working out right.

In any team, having been a Sunday manager for many years, invariably that's the case. Human nature & all that.
But WCFC lacking in confidence and possibly ability/organisation which could well be a managerial/coaching issue. Loathe to criticise RD too much, given some of the off-the-field shenanigans, which inspire far less confidence?

I think Saturday's home game will be the acid test as to whether or not there is any upturn in confidence following the Trophy win - Thurrock away on a Tuesday night was always likely to be a pointless excursion.

Yet as well as he played in the last round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy, he has another suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards.

I dont think manager mind suspensions for accumulation of yellow cards if those yellow cards are for tough tackling in midfield. Its an occupational hazard, anf if it stops goals and wins points, its worth the sacrifice. Of course you need another tough tackling midfielder to cover during the suspension though.

Not all the yellow cards were for hard tackles. He unfortunately has to back chat to referees.

Not all the yellow cards were for hard tackles. He unfortunately has to back chat to referees. Maybe not for 'hard' tackles but not for back chat either! From Steve Carley's live updates: 15th Aug v Woking: 51 mins: YELLOW CARD. City: Craig Wilding is booked for holding. 17th Aug v Basingstoke Town: 22 mins: YELLOW CARD. City: Wilding booked for a trip. 26th Sep v Bourne Town: 48 mins: YELLOW CARD. City: Wilding booked for challenge on Cartwright. 14th Nov v Dorchester Town: 66 mins: YELLOW CARD. City: Wilding booked. 15th Dec v Thurrock: 87 mins: YELLOW CARD. City: Wilding booked for foul on Paine.

Holding and tripping in midfield is good defensive midfield play, just watch players like Stilian Petrov, Paul Scholes, Michael Ballack etc. THey end up getting booked, but not before a number of holds and trips have held up play. Its an area that Arsenal have been weak in.
