Everyone needs to get money in pretty fast. there are 25 players listed so far which is £875 The cost of the pitch plus "sponsorship" is £900. Whats this sponsorship? Ok so the Board want to take the idea of fun out of the Big Match , but just rent the pitch and sod the sponsorship. It doesnt look like the Supporters Trust will get a penny from BM7

Ok so the Board want to take the idea of fun out of the Big Match , but just rent the pitch and sod the sponsorship. It doesn't look like the Supporters Trust will get a penny from BM7 We know some board members have "issues" with the trust and feel that all money should go direct to the club. I feel the cost has been set deliberately high to ensure there is little margin for money going anywhere else. Could it be played somewhere else? handing money over to WCFC board unconditionally isn't a very attractive prospect. The Big match has always been seen as a way of engaging with the fans and has been brilliantly run by Rich but sadly it has been tainted by now by the greed and desire to squeeze money from the wrong places.

For me Panter has always had one objective, squeeze more money out of loyal supporters. Big Match was brilliant way of giving a little back to supporters at the end of the year. The Board are clearly too thick to understand that if they played fair with supporters, they'd probably get all the money given to the club anyway, plus bar money, plus the money raised through the auction. Issues surrounding the Supporters Trust are created by the Boards paranoia, they know that a strong Supporters Trust will see through their dodgy dealings.

This has been a fantastic acheivment by Rich, and with Derek and others he created a memorable, and profitable, event. Certainly the first BM was a night I'll never forget.
I'm pretty fit this year but, much as I'd like to, I won't get involved if it means giving funds to this board of directors.

Andy, I always thought you were fit ;-)
I am not fit at all, but would love a chance to put the boots back on again and moan at my fellow players as usual, but I am not giving money to the Board as it stands...

This is really kind of sad. The previous Chairman didn't do much right, but he did at least understand the concept of Big Match. Bob Marley too put a lot into making sure BM was a money raiser as well as a great evening. Big Match 1 will live in my memory too Ealing, and there's a certain distinction of being remembered through failure, as the worst penalty to be taken EVER at SGL!!! This was one event at SGL I could even get my wife to watch, and my youngest son. It was a fantastic season ender for all supporters concerned. Plus, it raised money for the football club without anyone feeling that they'd been in any way fleeced. I think the Big Matches were raking in a couple of grand each time, some for the football club and some for the benefit of supporters.
Come on Mr Hampson, you read this message board, you want to engage with supporters and their families in a way that can extend the WCFC football family. Jeez, with a bit of goodwill we could probably even put a band on in the Social Club to raise more money, or have another auction. This isn't just a bunch of people who want to kick a ball around on the turf at SGL. This is serious supporters who every season endure a lot of pain and wallet emptying to keep this club rolling on. Most of the people involved in BM are simply punters who pay week in week out to watch football. BM is a chance for the football club to give them a little something back, in return for a payment of £35. As the event is split with the Supporters Trust (who I think you realise are where the "fresh blood" is going to come from) then surely its only fair that BM be used to raise funds for their cause, to strengthen their ability to help you!! The present arrangement sees all the money swallowed up directly by the football club. Its just not right, its almost as if you don't actually want Big Match taking place. Maybe if you understood a bit more of the history of the last 7 years, you'd understand a little better, although it appears that the attitude towards even the most loyal supporters is hardening. I'm saddened by the approach of the club regarding BM, I wonder, how much the football club charged Simon Williams for his use of the Social Club for his personal friends to sell their wares on Ladies Day!! I'm going to have to reconsider my involvement in BM7 now. I was looking forward to reacqainting myself with the Tiger Skin coat and big cigar!!! But if the entertainment and community spirit is being knocked out of Big Match 7, then whats the point? Mr Hampson, do you really care so little about your loyal supporters? And what the devil is this "Sponsorship" about. Who's sponsoring who? how?

Yes, I was thinking the same. The pens were from BM2 - so was the fur coat BM3?

Big Match 001 really was special.
Not only was it the fulfilment of a lifelong dream - it was the whole event! starting from meeting up, the prematch banter and stories about Snapper and JB etc etc
The restlessness in the changing rooms - running onto the pitch, really proud, stomach churning, feeling so youthful listening to 'Time is Tight', Capn Crazy's commentary - then at half time the floodlights came on. Final whistle and a lump in my throat and then the Photo's
And afterwards in the VP's Lounge - nice chilli and rice and then the auction. Great to see Doc Sorenson there too.
BM7.... perhaps its become a bit jaded, tarnished even?
The Final BM at SGL will be one to look for - (perhaps thats BM7) - who the hell knows...
I will never ever forget that BM 1 - still have the photo's but best I have the memory.
(That 'penalty' was BM 2 - I have never laughed so much since)

Manc, Croc.
PM me please. If that helps.
I have no idea how to do this for you alone. (upload photo's).
All I have is a photo of the me and then the 'home' team and some 'dodgy' ones the 'Blonde' took.
This was in the day's before digital really took hold - so many photo's were printed and then literally 'cut and pasted' into a family album...
But I do have a 'digital' of a young Manc with an impressive 'tash'.... thought I'd keep it in case he got famous.....
