I haven't seen any information on the Sportsmans Dinner this year, which is normally held in November and always a good night and good fundraiser for the Club.
Is it taking place?

Isn't this an event organised by Mr Prescott?? Surely the club can't afford NOT to carry on raising funds through these events? Or have they really stopped trying to keep the club functioning at SGL? Surely not!

Surely not! Yes, and what a brilliant advert for them it is too. Dont they realise that we need to actually STOP loosing money as any relocation is years off taking place (at best). Are these people really the best candidates to take the club forward? They have clearly shown they no ideas and support now so why will things be so different after the AGM? "If you continue to do what you did then you will get what you got!" Bungling fools!

I can now answer my own question. No it isn't taking place. I've also phoned a few of the people who always have a table and none of them have been asked this year.

"Dont they realise that we need to actually STOP loosing money..."
A revolutionary concept WH, alien to the board.

I've not been a fan of sportsmans dinners, they're a bit too 70's really, a bit prawn cocktail, chicken in a basket, and black forest gateau! However, there's no getting away from the fact that they generate revenue for the club, I've heard figures of between £4k and £5k. I'm quite amazed that the club can afford to give away this kind of money. This raises a very serious question, can the present Board honestly say that they are acting in the best interests of the club??

I've been to virtually all of them and it is a good night, with some good speakers and Comedians. There are always lots of people there who don't go to games so the Club is again missing out by not holding this event. There must be a reason for this not taking place, as long as they don't use the words "credit crunch" as an excuse.

I think it is happening.
A supplier of mine (a Hereford fan) offered to buy me a ticket a couple of weeks ago. I thanked him but declined.

I can tell you that the Sportsman's Dinner was planned for late November, after consulting a number of regular attendees of the night they stated that their lack of enthusiasm for the event was due in the main to the current turmoil surrounding the club. This together with the possibility of it clashing with an AGM and it coinciding with a similar event in the city it was agreed by the board to postpone it until February. Whatever the outcome on the 28th the venue is booked and will be available for the Board at the time to pursue a positive event. I find myself agreeing with Rich Widdowson, it really is a splendid night, a good speaker, an excellent comedian, an enjoyable meal and in good company. Tables of ten or more can be catered for, as well as individuals. This may be an ideal opportunity for the Trust to attend in strength to show their support for the Football Club whoever is sat round the Boardroom Table at the time.

It would also be a good time for the board members to actually purchase their usually complimentary tickets in a show of unity. As they say charity begins at home.

Also are you going to charge me double for that Eastbourne ticket or asking if I want to purchase the club?

As I pointed out to dave etherboddy I don't put any thought into what I write, and typos slip in, and you really should study your meat cuts more carefully!

Do many women go to these dinners? Forgive my ignorance. Oh and if Directors has not paid for their tickets (and unless they were given them) wouldnt that be disclosed in the accounts as remuneration? No? Oh well.

Did we have the fireworks this year? Yes, I went for the first time, very good, about 1500-2000 people attended.

It would need to be arranged by someone who actually has a clue about their target audience so that counts IDIFF out, oh yes and the rest of the board too!

Do you really think they would say anything other than it was a brilliant success? But judging from the fact that Camper didn't show his face on here to gloat I guess we can assume that it went badly.

I am amazed that Camper says the Sportsmans night was cancelled due to it possibly clashing with the AGM, I thought the AGM was going to be in September, on yes then October. The sportsmans dinner is always run in november. Does that mean that the comments made by Booby were misleading and there was never any intention of the agm not being anytime other than November? I am still of the opinion that if it wasnt for the EGM we still would not have a date for the AGM! Why are the 2008 accounts not included Tony?
