Today really has been the proverbial "last straw" - from a frankly yellow bellied effort by the local press - with an article that even a GCSE Media Studies student would disown, and now what looks like the SHAG standing aside and letting this reach it's sorry conclusion.
This club has been part of my life for the past 27-ish years - from being taken down by my father to stand by the old refreshment shed on the Cavalier Terrace, to being taken to my first away game down in Salisbury by my uncle - who was a staunch City man - only for him to pass away a couple of weeks later (man - I'm so glad - unfortunately - that he's not around to watch his beloved club sink out of existence thanks to the mismanagement by the Gang of Four - men I actually used to respect to some extent up until this whole debacle came to light. Now I consider them to be no better than what you might step in whilst walking down the street).
I still fondly remember that glorious night down in Crawley when we carried off the League Cup - our first major trophy in 20-odd years - the whole day was spoilt somewhat by the behaviour of what would now be known as the "football not politics" crew - who despite having just witnessed our first silverware in two decades - would rather have travelled straight back to Worcester after the game rather than stay in the social club for even 30 minutes celebrating with the rest of the fans.
Congas and Cheese Skittles at Cambridge, Late Night Singalongs at Margate, Beach Football at Weymouth, Suits in Barrow all get an honourable mention...
I've slowly watched this club decline in the last few years - although I thought with the sterling job RD and CH have done this season on the pitch we were finally about to give us something to smile about. Alas - thanks to the behaviour of the Gang of Four - all that hard work by the lads WILL go to waste.
I just haven't the energy for the fight against so many threatening forces - the wider public will believe what is printed in the local rag - rather than actually engage the brain and look beyond the smoke and mirrors.
Wherever we wind up - in whatever form - I'll probably see you there when things sadly run their course - with the death of Worcester City FC.
Those people who know who they are - will have been responsible for this - and will carry the stigma of being "the ones who finally finished us off".
Worcester City Football Club: 1902 - 2008 - Cruelly Taken From Us, May She Rest in Peace
