The next two games that I'm going to look back on in the Memory Lane feature in the programme are a friendly against a Stanley Matthews XI in 1951 and the 4-1 win over Burton Albion in 1990.
I can't imagine anyone remembers the former game but some of you must recall the Burton match.
If you have any recollections of this one that I could use in the programme can you post them here or else email me at jupugh@tiscali.co.uk? Thanks.

The 4-1 win over Burton was pretty much my favourite City game of my youth. I seem to recall that about 1500 turned up as we were up in the top 6 early in the season and with some exciting new faces in the team Purdie, Joinson, etc.
My memory recalls that we played supremely well first half, creating a hatfull of chances and going in 3-0 up at half time (I think). City were on fire, with John Purdie and Steve Ferguson pulling the strings. Perhaps the best sustained half of play I have seen from a City side.
Second half was a more relaxed affair with City holding their lead comfortably, but perhaps the best was yet to come. The performance crowned by the best goal I've probably ever seen a the lane. A 30 yd volley by Ian Cottrill who ran onto a dropping ball in midfield and lashed it into the net. Fantastic power and technique. Simply stunning.
I remember going home after that match convincved that we were going to win the league - I've not made that mistake again!

I think my Dad took me to the Stanley Matthews game. I remember him being tackled and injured quite early in the game which was a disapointment because we barely saw him perform. Possibly my first ever City game!

The 4-1 win over Burton was on 10th September 1990, and I remember it like it was yesterday, I took Pam into hospital during the afternoon as she'd started labour earlier in the day, and around 12.00 I was thinking that the little chap would pop out, all the oooohs and aaaaahs done and dusted, lovely baby and all that, and then she'd want a bit of peace and quiet and I could pop down the Lane. Come 5.00 nothings happened, 7.00 still nothing happening, and I'm thinking that I'm cutting it a bit fine, anyway 8,9,10 all go by and I've missed the game, but thought "well it was probably a boring game anyway" So midnight passes and still nothing, I had to wait till 8.00 the following morning before the little fellow finally dropped through the trap door. I could have gone to the game, had a curry and a skinfull, and still had time for a fry up in the morning before he arrived!!! I spent the night watching Go Fishing on BBC2 until the TV went off, I hate f**k**g fishing!!! And I missed a cracker of a game, and Joe Jacksons last game before disappearing off to Yeovil. If I had my time again, I wouldn't have changed a thing! Its only football

We've all seen Rooney's volley against Newcastle a couple of years back - Cotty's strike against Burton was better, one of the finest goals I have ever had the privilege to see.

It's one of those games that's in the memory banks as classic, but I don't remember a damned thing about it! I do however remember going to watch Yeovil at their brandspanking new ground the following Saturday with a mate who lived in Dorchester, telling him on the way to the game what a cracking player Joe Jackson and then being absolutely dumb-struck (quickly followed by a string of expletives) when Joe is presented to the crowd before the game as a new signing for Yeovil. No forums or websites in those days to keep us (then)exiles up to date. Try telling that to the kids today....
