Enough of all the doom and gloom for now. Lets enjoy a bit of footy shall we? How about some predictions for City v Walsall? I'll go for a 1-1 with 426 to attend.

HT 0-2 Benny reports that Walsall have brought their full first team squad and will be making 11 changes at the interval.

It looks very much as if scoring goals will be a problem again this season

Indeed it does; two friendlies played, six goals conceded - none scored!

We were totally outclassed for much of the game, and not surprising either really given the fact we are still trying lots of different options.
The worrying thing is I can only remember one decent effort from us all game, which was a snap shot over the bar from the edge of the area fairly late on.
One positive, I walked into the ground to the hear "Mr Brightside" by The Killers and also enjoyed the various tracks played including up to date tracks by artists like The Ting Tings, a refreshing change, well done TJ.
I was also interested to hear the reason for Captain Crazy's absence!

' Hold Back the Night'(Turn Out The Lights') by Graham Parker - I'd love to hear that on Saturday (or any day.)

can this change in the booth now guarantee that there will be no renditions of that Peter Kay monstrosity when City score next season. It's almost as bad as that ditty Johnny Hawkins wrote that was played about 10 years ago before he disgraced himself whilst buying some ham in St Johns.

So are City now running out to 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'?!! No, Time is Tight still, but the hardy few there last night were treated to such aural stimuli as The Associates, Foo Fighters, Blessed Ethel, Amy Winehouse, The Smiths, New Order, Elvis Costello, 808 State, Josef K, The Charlatans, The Ramones, Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers, David Potts, X Ray Spex, The Ting Tings, The Whip, Republica, The Libertines, Warsaw, Editors, Interpol and of course The Fall at the final whistle, with the theme music from Final Score.....

An eclectic mix indeed, is this the first break from the "Life on Mars" traditions at the Lane???

I just showed my work colleague the play list and he has promised to come down to his first ever game just on the strength of the tunes on offer! It should be in the constitution of every football club that The Fall must be played over the tannoy at some point during proceedings.

Sadly that was the last game I shall be doing the tannoy for though, it'll be back to Cliff Richard and Shakin Stevens from now on. If anyone wants to know why that's the last gane I will be doing, you'd better ask Widdy.

If anyone wants to know why that's the last gane I will be doing, you'd better ask Widdy. lets hope wccc can arrange a few more games to coincide with ours The problem is though the club think "life on mars" or "last of the summer wine" is what people want and enjoy! so until more people tell them otherwise nothing will change. The match day announcing and music has a powerful role to play in visitors experience at SGL. In terms of entertainment and sending out a professional message to visitors, the team and the standard of football is variable and will always fluctuate but the quality of the announcer and the music can be guaranteed and should form part of WCFC Ltd PR policy and should be there to enhance and reinforce the brand. I'm afraid cosy, comfy, smashy and nicey "at least they are trying" type performers don't fit the bill, just being willing isnt really good enough. sentiment shouldnt come into making key appointments. Sorry for the rant but I hadnt realised what a big difference a good announcer and music selection makes to the event, the club are in competition with top flight rugby and cricket for customers not antiques roadshow or last of the summer wine. TJ you have to do it again! lets get a petition going

totally agree with the above post. It's embarrassing having Peter Kay and the theme from Rocky played every game. Hang the DJ

As soon as I heard Elvis Costello I knew it was you. What's wrong with Shakin Stevens?

I had to miss last night's game but with 43 different players used I'm glad I didn't go. I don't know if I'll bother with any of the other friendlies if that's the sort of thing to expect. It might suit the managers' purposes but it's not what I want to watch, even with a reduced admission fee.
There is one thing I did miss about not going and that is the obvious improvement provided by TJ over the tannoy. What a pleasant change it must have been, as stated by those who were there, to have some decent music for a change. I'd definitely sign the petition.

Glad I saved my fiver now, another defeat. Mind you, the County wasn't exactly a lot better. At least they smile there when giving you your change at the bar.
