Danksy has just been interviewed on BBC H & W and when asked about next season he said he'd be happy to stay with City but the "powers that be" appear to have made their decision and he thinks he is on his way out.
I hope he's wrong.

I heard the same interview and put the same interpretation on what he said. He didn't actually say yes, I think his actual words were "It could be", but that was the definite inference.
He also said he was going to ask RD if he could rest his knee up and get it ready for next season, which is another way of saying he didn't want to play in the last two matches!
If our interpretation is correct it is a damn shame; one of our best players, of whom we have yet to see the very best I believe.

If it's true Danks is on his way, then the cull must be extensive.

Very extensive, Danksy is certainly in the "good enough" category to keep for next season. I'd be very disappointed to see him leave.

If Danksy is being let go, then they must be clearing out pretty well the complete team. Can think of very few better players in the squad!

Mark Danks can do some amazing things on the pitch. Can be a very entertaining player to watch.

In an already depleted squad, with other departures sure to follow (esp if we end up in Conference South), getting rid of Danks seems foolish in the extreme
Admittedly his injury record isn't great - but he's one of the very few who can produce something special, ...and he must be horrible to play against
I for one am very, very nervous about next season. I have faith in Dryden, but foresee us trying to compete with a thin, youthful squad. And struggling in the process....

Danks is one of the few players on the City's books capable of playing well at this level and above. To let him go suggests that the City are in far more of a financial mess than has been indicated and is another finance based decision, or that a better replacement is lined up. I hope the latter, but suspect the former. What is going on at SGL ?

I remember talking to his parents last year and he had convinced hmself he was going then. For a player who only spends a few years at any club, perhaps he needs a bit of re assurance now and then. I don't want him to go, he is midlands based for North or South next year and can turn a game.

I agree Danksy is a very talented player who has the ability to play at a higher level than this.
The trouble is though that he seldom performs to this level for any period of time.
I think Dryden must have taken the opinion that he cannot afford the expensive luxury when finances are bound to be tight next season.

At the end of the day, we have to have faith that the manager knows what he is doing in terms of players, I'm sure RD knows what he's doing.

I do hope Mark Danks is not going. He's one of our best I think. On the other hand, assuming RD knows what he is doing, he has someone better lined up.
That someone must be quite a player.

I think if RD gets messed around with a derisory budget he'll go. We should soon know.

Why all the gloom. Danks was asked a leading question by the H&W reporter and he had to respond. So he is not neccessarily leaving the club. Let us wait and see.

I repeat that his answer was not a definite yes - he said, from memory, "It could be.."
He could, of course, be adopting a negotiating posture ready for summer wheeling and dealing. We'll have to, as tony webb says, wait and see.

From the WEN website: Danks looks set to leave City"Mark Danks could be on his way out of Worcester City at the end of the season. The striker, who sat out Tueday's 1-0 defeat at Workington in order to rest his knee, has asked to have his name circulated around other clubs. Manager Richard Dryden is keen to retain Danks' services for the 2008/09 campaign, likely to be in the Blue Square South, but admits it could be difficult to stop him leaving. Dryden said: "He's asked for his name to be circulated so I'll have to sit down with him some time this week, whether it be face-to-face or over the phone, and see what his true intentions are. "When Mark is fit he's a quality player and you'd look to keep him. Hopefully he wants to stay but if he wants his name circulated we have got to ask whether he wants to stay or is he desperate to get away. "He's a quality player and I'll offer him a deal if it's right and I've got the money to do it. We're missing a goal-scorer at the moment. We're not scoring enough goals and he is a goal-scorer. "If he proves he's fully fit, he's very, very likely to get offered a contract. But if he's looking to get his name circulated, it might be very, very hard to keep him."

As I wrote some time before, Danksy is a bit like Sam Bowen, he's no known for his longevity at clubs, some players are just like that. We've had more goals out of Danksy than all of his other clubs added together, so we've had our value.

Two interesting angles though from Danks & Dryden
Danks: I'd like to stay, but it's down to the powers that be who seem to have already decided I'm leaving
Dryden: I want Danks to stay (if fit), but he wants to have his name circulated
Sounds to me like it's all about money.....

Its a poser. i wonder what Danksy's appearance record is? Useful he maybe but if he is out injured or suspended for over a quarter of matches then he should be released anyway IMHO.

In todays Worcester News, Danks seems to be playing the old game of give me what I want or I am off.
Cheerio!!!

Thats 80 appearances out of about 175 possible starts - less than 50%. Its really nowhere near enough for a contract player. I dont see it improving either to be honest. He struggles with injury and so some of his appearances are coming back after injury where players are not as effective.
One of Shanklys seven pillars of success is keeping an unchanged team. He did not sign , retain or tolerate injury prone players with the slight exception of Toshack.
Other pillars of success apart from being Bill Shankly
2. Pass the ball to the nearest red shirt 3. Never stand still 4. Run till you drop 5. Dont worry about the opposition 6. Dont overtrain 7. Play as a team

Forgot Cup games previously so Mark has played since debut on 21 January 2006 95 times and scored 37 goals, for comparison purposes Craig has appeared 97 times scoring 27 goals since start of 2006/07 season. It depends what you want from a striker games or goals? I prefer the latter.

But we're not comparing Danks with Wilding; we know Danks is a better goal scorer but is he a luxury we can afford? If - and of course this is all speculation - if he wants a pay rise for playing half the number of games, the answer is NO!

It seems to me that Danks just wants to know where he stands for next season. It appears that he's not been offered anything yet. We must be confident RD will sort it all out one way or the other, but it's a bit suspicious that it's all so public!

Doesn't give you confidence that there's a line of communication with the players.
