So basically this season will mean nothing once again? No no no!! It means that clubs aren't in a position where they are committed to promotion, and the league structural changes aren't beneficial to them. I can fully understand why, with a structural change in place, the FA have waived the requirements for application for elgibility for promotion. There will be a fair degree of horse-trading come the end of the season, and it may well be that a club winning their league will not be happy with their placement, and decide not to be promoted, and will be able to do so without penalty.

I can confirm that is no application process in place this season, a bit of time on Google is all thats needed to confirm that. Now then, how about something far more important, that can't be found anywhere other than from within the Boardroom - when is the AGM Kev? Your feet must be well under the table by now. Very good question Jem. Thanks for clarification on the promotion process. The issue for shareholders and stakeholders is that, back in November 2016, certain situations came to light, which led to the Board needing to firesale the only assets in the club, the players. This must have been something found in the accounts from earlier in the FY. Shareholders will most likely have to wait until at least February 2018, and more likely longer, to get any kind of explanation for this. This shows a complete lack of accountability to shareholders, at a time when accountability to shareholders is most required. The company has gone through the kinds of issues that have a massive impact on its viability, and the chairman has always said that his main goal as chairman is to be " accountable to shareholders, and to protect shareholders interest" Lets put to one side the fact that under law, this is NOT his primary goal as a director of a company, but he knows that. But he's failing on this, the second most important goal of a board director. The present constitution is so irrelevant now to a tiny local football club! Its akin to running a sandwich shop as a PLC!

As I understand it, this season clubs at Step 5 had to opt out of promotion before the start of the season rather than the normal procedure of opting in by 30 November. This change is to facilitate the creation of the new leagues at Steps 3 & 4 for 2018/19. I understand compulsory promotion means just that and clubs promoted without the required ground grading have a year’s grace.

It means you can get promoted without applying for it. Simple as that Genghis. If wcfc end up first or one of the 12 best step 5 runners up, we go up. Fair enough, I misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying that.

Just revived an old thread.
We're now exactly half way through the season,18 games played netting 36 points averaging 2 points per game. The first 9 games gained us 14 points [1.55 ppg] and the next 9 games gained us 22 points [2.44 ppg]. On current form the remaining 18 games would net 44 points out of a possible 54 available. That gives a total of 80 points, don't know if that's enough to overtake Hanley. We still have to play Hanley away and Boldmere at home which will be difficult fixtures. On the plus side we've played Lichfield twice and Tividale twice, that's 4 difficult games out of the way. The whole team looks much better now than earlier in the season. With Harrison in goal and Maphosa at the back, I feel confident we can deal with most opposing forwards. Midfield seems very energetic and every time we attack there's a better chance of scoring. It doesn't seem to matter who's in the team or on the bench or out for any reason, the side doesn't appear any weaker or stronger, it looks well balanced with strength in depth. Even the other day at home to Lichfield without Tim Harris, it still looked well drilled.
Fingers crossed that Hanley will drop some points somewhere and if we can beat both Hanley and Boldmere, top spot's up for grabs.[We might just do it] Anyone else feeling confident?

Yes, more so than any other time in the last few years.
Hanley had a bit of a blip a few weeks ago, but recovered well and are going strong again. Our mid-April game against them may be a bit of a nail biter with it being so close to the end of the season.

Without wishing to tempt fate I have enjoyed watching them. They have been competitive. They have created chances. The team, and the fans, appear to be settling in to their new surroundings. But, to paraphrase Jimmy Greaves, it's a funny old game and it only takes a few injuries, suspensions or other unforseen events to derail the momentum. At the moment my investment in wellies appears to have been a good one.

Well after so many years of deep gloom it’s most refreshing to read of optimism and positivity among supporters. Long may it continue. Stay safe all.

The good news about having less fixtures, is that hopefully the inevitable postponements won't have too much of an effect on us and should be no fixture pile up at the end of the season.
