Another player has joined the ranks for the 2017 / 2018 season in Albert Alexandru
Albert, 27, plays at centre half and is a former player at FC Dinamo, National Sebis, AS Nova Mama Mia in Romania and Smethwick Rangers.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Albert for the coming season.
Albert will be added to the online shop in the coming days for anyone who wishes to sponsor him for the coming season.

Great name it's been a long time since we had an Albert at the club.

Great name it's been a long time since we had an Albert at the club. I remember Albert Derrick in the early 1970’s. Albert is still a popular name up here for football clubs but none named after the Royal Consort. Royal Albert FC (from Larkhall in Lanarkshire) was named after a ship owned by the local pit owner. Larkhall men later involved in the setting up of a football club deep in Scottish Borders rugby country convinced the locals to use the same name so we have Hawick Royal Albert FC. However, the most poignant is Lochgelly Albert FC where the suffix was taken from the town in France where many Fife men died in the First World War. So there you have it!

I remember Albert Derrick; he came to us from Hereford, where he was a consistent mid-field performer if I remember. But he was never quite the same for us.

I remember Albert Derrick; he came to us from Hereford, where he was a consistent mid-field performer if I remember. But he was never quite the same for us. Edward Albert Derrick was born on 6 August 1939 in Newport. He was signed by Newport County, then in the Third Division, in December 1960 and made his Football League debut against Halifax Town on 22 April 1961. He went on to play for Merthyr Tydfil, Cambridge City and then a six-year spell at Hereford United. He re-signed for Newport, now in the Fourth Division, in July 1969. He joined City in the 1970/71 season and played 23 games (2 goals) before being released at the end of the season. He moved on to Barry Town and then, finally, Merthyr Tydfil. In total he made 28 Football League appearances (plus 1 as a substitute) and scored 9 goals. His father, Albert Edward Derrick, was born in Newport in 1908 and played for Newport County. Albert may be a family name.

Proof that footballers don`t show much imagination in naming their offspring is provided by the Worcester based Villa star, FRANK MOSS. He Named his firstborn...... you`ve guessed it ... FRANK and completely spoiled for choice, named the second son......AMOS. Both went on to star for Villa either side of WW2 but never turned out for the City other than in wartime games !

Frank Moss Senior played 37 games for City between 1929 and 1932. I believe he became landlord at the Grosvenor Arms pub in St. Johns after retiring from football.

As Albert starts yet another season with yet another club you can understand him sighing and saying, “Here I go again.” Well, he must have said that when he played for AS Nova Mama Mia. Has anyone told him how tough it can be in the MFL with only one club getting promoted? It’s definitely a case of the winner takes it all.
Mult noroc, Albert! Bun venit la Worcester (sau Bromsgrove)!

He's signed just in time for Farage to "send him back". How will the brexit loving citizens of Worcester react?

He's been at 8 or 9 clubs in the last 6 years, talk about journeyman!! I hope he doesn't get a nosebleed playing in a stadium as big as the Victoria Ground, he's been used to playing in stadia in Romania with capacities of around 1500 max!! I'm not overly excited by his signing, he didn't play for FC Dinamo Bukarest, he played for Dinamo ll , that's the reserve team, and that was 6 years ago, its been all downhill to Smethwick since then. Its a bit of a come down from signing Gambian internationals, have we still got him? Did we ever have him?

One of (if not his first) touch was a foul, and he got booked. Rather sums up the rest of his time with us!! I'm not overly impressed with the signing of Alexandru, but it is where we are. Like pretty much every player that has ever signed for City, I'll give them a chance.

We are back in proper non-league football, where we rate players by their lookylikeyness!!

I think he looks more like Coloccini who used to play for Newcastle than Luiz...
On the logic of signing people because they look like other footballers, apparently I look a bit like Kyle Perry, so I'm going to claim that I should be given a chance in preseason! Could do with a 'target man' up front to lay balls off to Hughes.

He looks more like Leo Sayer, who was a tricky little midfield dynamo in his day. He made you feel like dancing too, apparently.

Mind you my wife's ex husband also looked like Leo Sayer.
