It seems like, typically, everything is being done backwards at the club. So far the club don't even know what league we are playing in, so they are not in a position to set realistic budgets, yet they've appointed joint managers, and are talking terms with players. In any other business, particularly a failing business, you'd start by having an idea of what your income is likely to be, and set your cost budgets accordingly. Its just bizarre!

As a City fan of 40 odd years, I thought that I'd got used to all the shocks and surprises, half truths, financial denials, lack of logical thinking, and that I'd seen it all. Even by City's past history, appointing as a Joint Manager a player who we let go 3 months ago to cut costs, who will continue to play, and who would have kept us in the Division is a first.
I really am struggling to understand.
Perhaps Hampson might wish to explain to fans the chain of events and thinking of the Board since our financial crisis suddenly dawned on them in February ?

Not sure I give the Board enough credit to believe they could orchestrate all of this.
My sense is: • Heeley resigns • Board panics • Someone asks about Hughes and they let him go without any thought or plan
It feels now, as it did then, like an incompetent move to have allowed Hughes to move on.
I think John Snape did himself immense credit in the latter stages of the season. BUT where is the due diligence in scouring the region to see if there are any other managers / coaches who would excel at getting the best from talent in our region?? This feels like a very lazy answer.

Given Lee Hughes's criminal conviction (admittedly now "spent" in terms of the criminal law), does this mean he is a "fit and proper person" to be a manager? Does a manager (as opposed to a director) have to pass the FA's "fit and proper person" test?
I don't know the answers: perhaps someone else does.

Surely Hampson is the one who needs to sit a "fit and proper person test"? What's the pass mark? Lower than 5% and he might just scrape through.

Fit and proper person, to my knowledge, applies only to owners / directors of football clubs (would you believe that I am a fit and proper person according to the FA) I would very much doubt whether it would apply to employees. And Noboddy, I think you're right, judging by the rogues who seem to be able to run football clubs up and down the land!

The action of letting him leave pretty much consigned us to the drop but to now bring him back is baffling to say the least.
Like others have said the club should be taking stock of the situation and be looking to live within our means given our current plight. Can't see from a financial perspective what thought has gone into this? When is the hierarchy at this club going to grasp this as it's gone on for 30 years!
That then brings us on to actually having Hughes as joint manager. Just don't see him as setting an example to the younger players as he doesn't apppear to be the best role model. The one reason I could come up with for releasing him was his temperament, as he just couldn't be relied upon to get through 90 minutes without gobbling off & I don't see this changing?

Agree. What are the chances of this lasting past the first frosts? On the other hand it doesn't really matter who you appoint captain of the Titanic after it has struck the iceberg

Absolutely bizarre.I don't think they have any idea of what they are doing(apart from ensuring we were relegated) I am glad I have bought my season ticket at Sutton.

This feels like a very lazy answer. Have we considered the fact that there may not have been sufficiently qualified/talented coaches around that actually wanted the job? Be honest, would you want to manage a club with no ground, uncertain future, with a very small budget and no prospect of promotion back to Nat North because we can't afford it? Frankly I am surprised we have 2 managers at all, and I'm sure Snapper is only doing it out of pity for a club he loves.

Well, Hampson said that there was a lot of interest in the position when Carl left, there will always be plenty of ex footballers, and ex managers looking for a position. I don't think I've ever heard of a football club at any level struggling to find a manager.

They could have appointed Guardiola or Mourinho and still would have received criticism. A few individuals slightly irritated that the club hasn't died.

They could have appointed Guardiola or Mourinho and still would have received criticism. A few individuals slightly irritated that the club hasn't died. The simple fact is that the club could never, even in the fantasy world of receiving £8m for SGL, have afforded to appoint such luminaries. Such a comment is laughable. The company may or may not die but our club never will...and as I have said before the club belongs to the fans not the self appointed unelected cabal that purports to run it.

I really don't think dual managers is the best way forward. But I have to say that Hughes could be a good inspiration to the younger players in that he runs and runs. He was without doubt the fittest player in our squad and can hopefully pass on his fitness regime to others. He is a natural goal scorer - and these are scarce regardless of which league to you looking at. I admit that the red mist comes down at times, but perhaps with new responsibility he might control this better. In saying all this, I have to admit that my love of WCFC has just about disappeared after 59 years of support. I am also a shareholder and held a season ticket for the majority of those years, but I really don't care anymore.

I think this is great news, however it does make the decision to let Lee go look even more suspicious. I might even stop my boycott on going to home games next season !! Just a couple of views/observation on the comments of this thread. I also wonder if the joint manager system is a good one, I'd much prefer a manager & assistant. So, Lee can be a little hot headed some times. At least he can use this to install some fight & passion into his team. And why on earth does anyone need to mention Lee's past (especially coming from someone who advocates positivity not negativity on here). It's done & dusted & to be fair the crowd took him to heart after the initial decision to take him on first time round. I'm pretty sure Lee reads this board, so welcome back mate.

This is an interesting piece in the Worcester News www.worcesternews.co.uk/sport/15267921.Snape_and_Hughes_don_t_know_what_level_City_will_play_at_next_season/It seems to confirm that the Board have voluntarily resigned from the Conference League, and are now waiting on the football authorities to decide at what level they will play next season. Thank you Snap for giving supporters the kind of information that should be being provided by the Board. We have a management team who have integrity, and I wouldn't expect it to be any other way from Snap and Lee, they're good guys, and they understand non-league football. Our hopeless, head in the sand Board however treat supporters very differently. Next season is going to be a tough one, wherever we are placed, but it could be made a lot easier if the Board helped out by getting everyone behind the club, and the best way of doing that is giving a bit of openness. Supporters are integral to the future of the club, I think they have earned the right to know the truth.

One thing I do appreciate is the honesty and passion of John Snape. As with Carl, he talks as he played. Thanks Snapper.
However, shouldn't these announcements about the Club's potential intentions be coming from the Board ?
Drip feeding information and people picking up on rumours which are invariably proved correct, cannot be the right way to go. Any potential voluntary relegation is the first scenario that the Board should be telling us about, before the biggie, a correct financial update.
With the 2016 loss of 155k being initially given as an estimated loss ( post year end by the way ) of 120k by Mr Hampson, and the track record of this Board and its predecessor, I don't hold out too much hope as we all await the position as at 31st May this year.
As I've said before, if the club can lose 155k with 87 k received from the Sheff Utd cup run, with no 2017 cup run, how bad a mess are the Board hiding ?

The other positive of having joint managers is that when Hughes serves his touchline ban (it's going to happen!) Snapper still has a voice on the touchline

So the club must know what league we are playing in next season , after all, it would be somewhat foolish to agree financial terms with anyone without knowing what the income streams are likely to look like.

That is true, but therefore you'd have to assume that if they don't know the league, they'd have to work on the lowest budgets, and therefore put Hughesy on the lowest wage they could, just in case!!

Snapper said in the paper that they knew what budgets they would have for each level so the club might still not know ! This certainly reads as if the club has applied to move down the Pyramid otherwise the club already knows what level it would be playing at next season (Step 3) but not which league as the Midlands clubs are on the “fault line” between the Southern and Northern Premier Leagues. So if an application has been made my interpretation of the rules is that it is not a general application but an application to a specific league/division and (obviously!) one that is lower than they were playing at last season or due to play in next season. It would therefore have been to one of the following: Northern Premier League Division One South (Step 4) Southern League Division One South & West (Step 4) Midland Football League Premier Division (Step 5) The Leagues Committee determines the application. I suppose in theory, but very unlikely, they could reject the application and leave the club to takes its place at Step 3 (Premier Division of the Southern and Northern Premier Leagues). Going by previous seasons the placements for Steps 1-4 for the next season will be agreed by the Leagues Committee any day now.
