We also need CLEAR information: the club statement (above)is what I call "weasel words". Says a lot in long words, but really tells us nothing. Just the sort of thing you expect in the civil service, not a football club.

When the now defunct Wimbledon FC were on their last legs as a London side, the board sanctioned the sale of two of the better players to rival Championship clubs (we were in the mix for the playoffs at the time), in order to guarantee that promotion back to the Premiership would be out of reach.
I fully expect the gates at Bromsgrove to be locked for an upcoming home game.
Truly sad, totally unnecessary.

Bizarre indeed ! Sign a striker on ? Let us not forget that barely 3 months ago we paid 5 k for Connor Hughes, and gave him an 18 month contract !!!!!!!
At the time, with our suspected financial situation, it seemed crazy. That 5 k would have kept Lee Hughes to the end of the season !
I simply do not understand the Board's thinking. How, in the light of recent events, can they justify their actions ?
They really are clueless .

Also am I missing something here , as good a GK as he is why have we signed Vaughn on a deal til the end of the season? We have a perfectly adequate one in Ross so surely this money would be better used in getting in a striker ??

Well, looks like, new manager or not, City are looking at a new forward, as witness this statement from the Worcester News website just six minutes ago:-
"WORCESTER City are keeping a close eye on Burton Albion youngster Cameron Steele as they look to bolster their attacking options. The “tricky” forward is among a number of trialists .... Steele is part of Burton’s under 23s side and was in the Championship side's team who lost 3-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Wednesday. Caretaker boss John Snape said: “We have had three or four trialists down on Thursday night. Cameron is one of them as Burton are looking for him to get games. He is a tricky little forward and can play out wide. He has not signed yet so we are just looking at him.”
So we may have a new signing in place for Saturday: my goodness how we need one. A potential nightmare for referees: we would have two Steeles and two Keanes.

He must have overheard some supporters saying there needs to be more steel in the team Dodger.

I see Hughes is out for 2 weeks+ at Telford with a groin injury
And while one shouldn't take pleasure in other clubs' misfortune - Telford 0 Brackley 6 this evening brought a smile to my face

Just watched the video on the Telford website: Brackley were awesome, Telford terrible. We have to play Brackley, of course, on 21st and if they play like they did in the FA Cup they'll wipe the floor with us.
However, after Saturday I just feel there's a bit more heart to us. The 6-0 defeat for Telford destroyed their best defensive record and they now have the same goal difference as us I think.

Connor Hughes has been released from his contract with the Club !
Perhaps the Board can explain how in our financial mess, we paid a fee less than 3 months ago for a player we now release. As he was signed on an 18 month contract, have we also had to buy him out out the remainder of his contract ?
It beggars belief.

As he was signed on an 18 month contract, have we also had to buy him out out the remainder of his contract ? It beggars belief. Whilst we never should have been in the situation of paying fees for players, and how we could justify £5k in the first place is crazy, it was very unfortunate that Connor Hughes should get injured so seriously in the way that he did. We aren't going to get any more football out of him this season, and given the extent of the injury he may not be quite the same player on his return, therefore it makes sense from our standpoint that we terminate his contract. We won't have had to pay him off in full for the 18 months, we will have agreed a smaller compensation fee with him in order for the contract termination to be mutual. So yes unfortunately it will have cost us (yet more) money but ultimately it's better than paying the wages of someone on crutches for the next 18 months.

Anyway I'm sure Chorley will do their best to help City by hammering Telford - not sure if they will get 6 - but 3 or 4 will do for me!

It would seem improbable that, having been considered dispensable as a player and unsuitable as a manager less than three months ago, Lee should be lined up for a return. I note too that the statement doesn't say he's retiring as a player, so wherever he goes he may have a role both on and off the field.

According to a Notts county fan who attended an event the other night where Hughes was speaking, lee Hughes said he was becoming our player manager next season, and we may possibly having a friendly at meadow lane.

I cannot for one minute believe that is true. Firstly I can't possibly think the board would have appointed him in the last 4 days since we went down as that is far to proactive for them, and secondly, I can't see him returning to the club that unceremoniously rejected his application for the manager's post 3 months ago. Wouldn't see it as a slap in the face to Snapper, as he has said he doesn't want the manager gig full time, but maybe it would be to Jacko, if he expressed an interest.

I might be wrong ,but I think Lee has to take a course and obtain some sort of badge which he doesn't hold at the moment, I think he was taking this in the Summer

It's madness to discard Hughes one minute when we truly needed him and re-sign him now it's too late. This board is truly incompetent.

If true it could just work, Hughes working along side some of our local lads, and also playing might give us a chance to make the playoffs next season, or am I being to optimistic? Lee, a big fish in a small pond

If Lee Hughes is brought back , then I think that that is a very valid call to make regarding relegation. Don't get me wrong, I like Lee Hughes, and in my view he should never have been released. His enthusiasm rubs off on everyone, and there aren't that many players that'll join you for a smoke after a game! But its pretty clear to everyone on the terraces that, if Lee had stayed, City would not have been relegated. And likewise, if City had really wanted to stay up, there's no way Lee would have been released. If it was really about money, then release 4/5 other players, and keep Lee, he was that important in terms of staying up, and then move him into a managerial position for next season. This is looking more and more like an engineered relegation.

It would be a bizarre set of events, to say the least, if Hughes reappeared as City manager.
However given I have yet to see this Board ever create a plan for anything, never mind deliver against one, it is hard to believe they are smart enough to engineer something so shrewd.

And of course the Worcester News has picked the story up (from here?) and now it's plastered all over the back page - admittedly followed by a question-mark just to cover themselves if they've got it wrong.

If that's how they get their news then here's a headline for them:
IS HAMPSON REALLY AS INCOMPETENT AS HE APPEARS?
