Has he gone because he wasn't going to be manager?

Doesn't look like anyone at the club is talking to each other, Hughes has left, yet 3 hours ago the club issued this piece of news !! Attachments:

Only a week ago we were desperate to see him return and give us a goalscoring option. He was made captain on his return, scored a great goal, spoke enthusiastically after the game and was clearly keen to step up to a management or coaching role. Something quite significant must have happened to bring about such a big shift in so short a period of time.
Clearly Lee divides opinion but he's contributed a lot during his time here and has proved that he can still score goals. I'll miss him.

Their is no official announcement on Lee Hughes leaving on the club website or Twitter, quite a dramatic move in events since Saturday after him wanting the managers job. With Mark Owen also withdrawing his interests in the managers job it seems all things are not right behind the scenes at this club. It was on the club website three hours ago that John Snape will continue in charge for this Saturdays game at Harrogate Town assisted by senior players Danny Jackman and Lee Hughes.

The "other" club, Harriers, Nuneaton ?
Or Stalybridge where Steve Burr has just taken charge

All very bizarre. Can't quite reconcile Snape's 'disappointment' with the ease with which we are releasing him.
Looking at our difficult run in you would say we were looking like a 50-50 bet to get dragged into the bottom 3. The loss of Hughes directly, plus the knock on effect on the rest of the team, begins to stack the odds against us.
I am expecting a clear and concise communication from our chairman, that explains everything, any minute now....

When you think that things couldn't get any worse........! I have a horrible sinking feeling we haven't seen anything yet. I dread the next few months.

Any decent Chairman would call for a fans forum and explain exactly the situation that the Club is in.Talk of unity is just hot air but no doubt the 'true supporters' are giving Hampson encouragement to carry on regardless. Unfortunately we have the closed shop mentality that has prevailed for years now and we shall only learn of the Club's demise when the gates are locked.

Like AdyCrean I don't buy this 'disappointment' line from John Snape. It just doesn't fit. Of all the players on the books, I'd say that Lee Hughes was the one you'd do most to hang on to.

Bloody hell! That's all we need: now we have no goal-scorers. It will take a miracle to save us now I reckon.
Obviously he was told he wasn't going to get the manager's job and that's his reaction.

Could be that are Chairman doesn't want us to stay in this league?

I don't see what all the fuss is. Trim the wage bill by losing some big earners and take relegation down to the next division. Sensible business for a club with no ground and little money surely?

Agreed, but that wasn't the Business Plan that shareholders signed up to at the AGM, that was not what shareholders voted for at the EGM. If that's the plan, and it's a valid plan, then let's cut the bullshit and let everyone know.

If the club were relegated then the attendance would be down on what they are now.No Kiddy/FUCM/Stockport and a few other well supported clubs. Most clubs don't get rid of their top scorer without a good reason, lets hope the board come out quickly, and explain to everyone what the hell is happening to our club

Any concerns that Harrogate might have had for Saturday's fixture have now disappeared.......
Quote from Harrogate's match preview:-
"Town will need to be wary of striker Lee Hughes who struck twice on the opening day of the season and has 13 league goals for the campaign; the fifth best total in the league."

We don't know if the decision has been taken in order to cut the wage bill though, do we? You suggest this would be a sensible business decision, but WCFC isn't a business, it's a football club and for me that means such things as pride, honesty and integrity. Accept relegation with nearly three months of the season still to play - how do you sell that idea to remainder of the playing squad?

And how do you sell it to the supporters both this term and also next season in a potential lower league

A couple if points if I may.
Verner - how do you know Hughes isn't a big earner? Experienced player and our main goalscorer - I'd hazard a guess he is.
Jupu - it might be a football club, but it has to be run as a business.

I can't help but feel the rumours of voluntary relegation, combined with the swift change in intentions from Lee Hughes, are likely to be linked.
I think the buckled and broken wheels are about to fully come off the Worcester City wagon in the next few weeks. We all knew the club was doomed but I have to say I didn't expect it to happen this season.
