We was robbed. Robbed of anything decent to talk about. I'm not being negative, but we were crap.

The website refers to it as a toe rout, is this fair?

5-1 sounds like a rout to me; let's hope this is a wake-up call and will dispel any complacency that may have been lingering around.

It was only a friendly match, it is not as if it was APs first choices on the pitch. I am not worried at all by this result. I saw City get hammered by Halesowen a few seasons back, Danny was terrible that day. AP is giving the youngsters and trialists a chance to shine.
I go to the friendlies because I like watching city play. There is no pressure to win, just get fit and back into playing as a team. If we get hammered 0-10 by Walsall what does it matter. It is all practice. Its what happens when the season starts that is what we should be thinking about.

i agree with gobby. AP didnt have full strength out, with danksy, gill, clegg, wilding, shab, all out. as you say its only pre season, trial and error, sharpen players up, match fitness, and give trialists and young players a chance. although i do admit a few changes should be made to a few players within the squad.
but we could beat walsall 3 or 4-0 on saturday, but it wont mean we'll walk the league, so dont look to much into it.

Quite right, its all about preparation as a wise man said at the kit launch.. If you fail to prepare then be prepared to fail.

Oh dear.........Management speak. He'll be doing 6 Ps principles soon Wont be long before we get 'hard work beats talent, when talent stops working hard'
....and before Munslow starts getting clever with firemen analogies, that is not a knock at Andy Preece, just the wonderful world of management speak, flagpoles, blue sky and stuff.

I must admit that I dont fully understand this triallist thing. We havent got a budget to sign anyone after all. If they are there to share the workload in games while the contracted squad are brought up to fitness or fill gaps when players are on holiday, then thats fine by me. But it can only interrupt the building up of knowing how the team is likely to play, which is important with at least two new players in midfiled.
As long as the Club say beforehand what sort of side they are going to put out - and stick to it - as 10 quid a game is what we pay for normal games.
If the 1-11 played last night as listed above (I didnt make it back from London in time to go) then there at least 6 of the likely starting eleven. In which case, I wouldnt be particularly happy or complacent about getting turned over 5-1 at Bromsgrove. Sure, I'm not going to go overboard about it, but I would like to see the squad building a winning mentality - or at least a "we're not going to get beat" mentality. I dont want to see any carry over of 'this game doesnt matter' from friendlies into the first few fixtures, on the basis that someone said (cant remember who, but certainly not AP) we can always make the points up later in the season.

Too right andy, its easy to pass off friendlies as not mattering to the team and the management, but I'm sure Preecey will not have been impressed. Okay you don't want to peak too early, but friendlies should ramp up to a good start to the season. Triallists? well maybe there's room for a couple of non-contract players. Andy Preece would certainly never suggest points can be made up later in the season, unfortunately as we see every year, they can't. Top 6 after 10 games is where we need to be, so hopefully the 'bigger' friendlies coming up will see a settled team taking shape. We are shipping a few goals aren't we?

i tend to not go to some pre season friendlies as paying £ 7.00 to £10.00 for these sort of games is a rip off . you can watch the same level of football being played on archdales for nothing!!!!!

Inevitably those who played on Saturday and last night will have been struggling a bit.
Once everyone has had a run out and the holiday makers are back I expect we will see the new City defence line up and that to me is a key part of this pre season preparation.

Danks, Gill, Wilding and Shabs all played. Whilst I admit that we did not play a full strength team there were enough of our "quality players" on show to beat Bromsgrove. Only one team turned up ready to start the season and it wasn't Worcester. The most worrying aspect of the match as I saw it was Adam Burley trying to collect his first yellow and red of the season. He could easily have been sent of for any of a number of incidents during the game. We may need more defensive cover!

Isnt defensive cover provided by the ability to revert to a flat back four given the extr pace at the back this season?

The season that Hereford (sorry I swore) pushed Chester so close for the Conference championship, then lost in the play-offs they won all their pre-season friendlies in a canter, scoring six or seven against lower oppo. That's what I would like to see; not losing 5-1.
