Was an enjoyable game, players looked shattered by the end. Man of the match for me is Deeney, but Jackman, Gudger, Sharpe, Brown were all very good.

Well done you City boys! Great result tonight. Time to push on now and string together a run. Next up Darren Campion's "big club" (and now bottom of the pile) Telford

Have to say I feared the worst seeing Vaughan, Hughes and Thomas missing, but the lads were magnificent!! Back 4 plus Deeney and Jackman were really solid and we were bright going forward - a bit more composure and we could have won comfortably.
The tackle on Smith was horrendous!!! The no 2 launched himself two footed and was never in control of his actions. Straight red for me

brilliant display with not the full first team squad, think they all deserve a great big thanks, unable to say who was man of the match, but as he was playing out of position, scored a cracker I would give it to Jamie Smith, Deeney, Jacko, Sharp,Vincent for playing out of position, Goodyear & Nti all put in a great performance... hope Jamie is OK.

Like I said, I was right next to it and there's no doubt in my mind that their 2 was at fault, and should have been sent off - their players got a but heated with my dad after the match however, claiming Jamie was the one who fouled their player! By all accounts they're a rough side, so it's expected, although not acceptable.

Excellent result and performance. Everyone to a man battled hard, effort could not be faulted. On seeing City take to the field minus Thomas and Hughes one could have been forgiven for feeling apprehensive about the outcome against tonights high-flying visitors. But its in such situations that a team and its character is forged.
The conditions were difficult, no exaggeration it was difficult not to be blown over by a couple of strong gusts on the way to the ground. That said City acquitted themselves well and proceeded to create several openings in the first half but only had the one goal to show for their enterprise. That was a fine 20 yard effort by Smith who walked away from the standing ball into space and was still unmarked when it was played to him and he hit it into the top corner with the goaly nowhere.
The second half opened up with Boston pressing but City seemed to have weathered the storm (no pun intended) when we lost the ball cheaply in midfield and paid a heavy price with Boston's no. 9 hammering in the equaliser. After that it was an even affair but City squandered one or two good opportunities, but just when it seemed to be heading for a draw City's no 9 was in the right place causing trouble at the near post to divert home a cross from the right. Although I am not sure how much he knew about it.
After that it was all hands to the pumps as Boston launched crosses and long throws into the box but these were dealt with by Gudger and co and so City secured a well deserved win. The pitch I thought was excellent and allowed football to be played despite the blustery conditions.
On a sad note the promising Smith was carried off following a late challenge by their no 2. I cannot find the words to describe the frustration of City having 7 players sent off so far, I don't know if any have been for bad tackles that have inflicted injury to opponents, and yet you can see the opposition defence has been caught out with a ball to the wing and the on rushing defender has got one thing on his mind - and he succeeds in stopping the attack. Yellow card for him, another player out for the City. Hopefully the City player will make a speedy recovery. Lets see if we can make it two wins in a row this Saturday.

I must say my heart sunk when I saw that Vaughan, Thomas, Hughes and Burton weren't playing, but I needn't have worried: the other lads rose to the occasion. Deeney, I would agree, was MOM for us, but Sharpe, Jackman, Gudger (who improves with every game) and the excellent Sam Minihan are worthy of mention too. Nti also had a good game, harrying their defence all the time.
Boston were absolute pants in the 1st half: didn't look like they'd got off the bus, and if that's what a sixth place side looks like then we have nothing to fear.
Unfortunately Corby won at Stalybridge tonight, but we're still out of the bottom three. Now for Saturday.

A decent battling performance from a makeshift City side to get their fourth win of the season, City took the lead from a excellent strike from Jamie Smith and should of gone in at half time three up. In the second half a mix between Weir and Vincent let in Boston to level things at 1-1 , City hit back with Andre Brown to go 2-1 up and a managed to hold on with Ethan Ross bringing down a Boston forward and escaped with a booking. Overall a good performance all over the pitch, Sharpe and Gudger were solid at the back, with Deeney and Jackman were excellent in midfield with Daniel Nti causing problems all night on the right flank. Their was obviously some fall out from the poor performance at Stalybridge, I did hear Lee Hughes had failed a late fitness test and the question I would like to ask is where was Wayne Thomas and Deon Burton ?. The most important thing was that we got three points and are now out of the bottom three in 19th place with 15 points, another Tuesday night poor attendance of 307 , with around 30 from Boston. Home To AFC Telford on Saturday.

Not much to add to the other comments. A whole team performance. If Danny Jackman was a dog he'd be a terrier. Other than the last few minutes when we seemed to go into panic mode defensively it was the kind of game that makes you wonder why we are at the wrong end of the league

Yes it was all a bit desperate and scrappy at the end wasn't it? But a draw would have been a big injustice, on the nigh we deserved three valuable points. Agree with all of the above a cracking goal from Jamie Smith and a terrible two footed tackle that injured him, certainly a red card. Ellis Deemey was excellent (BUT he got another yellow card for back chatting to the ref!) but I thought Sharpe was Man of the Match he really is a quality defender. Good cause for some optimism going forward barring injuries and suspensions.

A very good performance in very difficult windy conditions. A lot more endeavour shown, being first to the ball all night. A great team effort, with all playing well and trying hard for a deserved win. Deeney and Jackman were excellent in midfield, controlling the game, and Nti was on his game tonight, beating the full back time and again. I thought that Andre Brown did well up front, showing for passes, and working hard off the ball, and delighted for him that he got the winner. The back four all looked solid in a much improved performance. As for the Jamie Smith tackle, whilst the defender did go in almost two footed, he kept his studs down, and got there just before Jamie who kicked him ( the secondjack's dad is correct ! ), and it looked a lot worse than it was, and to me a yellow card was correct. Having said that, I've seen us given red cards for a lot less this year, but last night's ref refereed as though he'd actually played the game, and was the best ref we've had this season, letting the game go, with his clear communication of decisions and talking to the players, showing how to man manage a game of football. The City players reactions to the tackle was relatively muted, suggesting to me that they thought it was more accident than design as well. I'm delighted that Jamie hasn't broken anything, and a lovely strike for his goal. A horrible night's weather, England on TV, us bottom of the table meant that a very low crowd was inevitable, and hats off to the friendly coach load from Boston who made the trip. Presumably the " Shed Army " were busy last night !

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one - I still think it looked a red card. Like you said, we've been given red for less.
This thought just popped into my head - if we only have 4 on the bench, due to Hughes not passing fitness pre-match, why didn't Carl or Matt register themselves and be on the bench? I have no idea of the logistics of such a thing, but I'm pretty sure Carl registered himself in 13/14 as the squad was stretched at one point... Our bench was made up of a young central defender, a winger, an (apparently) unfit striker and an injured midfielder... could have done with another pair of legs for certain.
Also makes me think that the league should allow for an extra sub, as you usually only have 4 after your backup keeper anyway!.. of course the cost argument will kill that off.

A yellow card looked like the right decision for me. The incident happened right in front of me and that's my opinion. However it's quite right to say players have been sent off for similar challenges.
Excellent performance all round too by the way. Looking forward to giving Mr Campion a warm welcome when the big club visit on Saturday.

I'm pretty sure that picture is of the tackle. Defender not going over the ball, and Jamie was caught on his left leg. A strong tackle indeed but no malice intended for me. I suppose it highlights the consistent inconsistency of the refs in our League, although I thought that last night's was very good, and a yellow card was correct to me. As for Saturday vs Telford, Geddes is available again, Jamie Smith will no doubt be out, and we'll have to see re Vaughn, Thomas, Burton, Hughes, Waldron. It might get a bit spicy on Saturday, if so a few old heads will be needed.

That is a picture of the tackle and I think it supports the argument for nothing more than yellow card. The Boston player is coming in from the side and he's looking at the ball, not Jamie. It seemed to me at the time that it was simply two players going for the ball and it could be that Jamie did catch their man as well.
Agreed some refs give reds for any robust tackle, but this decision hardly justifies the (usual!) hysterical rantings of a couple of our supporters when it happened. I think the fact that our players made little fuss over it says a lot.
