They missed the penalty, I thought I'd leave the rest to Niels as he's doing an excellent job so far!

Fantastic win for the lads.
To cap that brilliant win, Gainsborough got hammered at home - did they have a decent ref tonight???
I knew they had it in them from that gutsy performance on saturday. Keep it up lads, with spirit like this a play off place is on the cards.

Hmm, not too sure what to make of tonight. First 20 mins were pretty even, Eastwood perhaps slightly in the ascendance. Then all hell broke loose, Danks and Glover caused mayhem among their lumbering centre backs - two headed goals for Clydey, a great 20 yard free kick for Danksy and the Glover added one just before the break.
Unfortunately, Eastwood realised at the break that we like getting the ball down in midfield and passing it - their answer? Simple - lump it straight over the midfield and let the strikers chase down and turn our two lumbering centre backs, which they did very effectively.
We had no Plan B and no ideas on how to stop them once they started by-passing our midfield.
Very relieved to have held on, they could easily have drawn - fairly play to Eastwood, they spotted a weakness and exploited it very well.

Doom & gloom eh sheffield, you must be a staunch city supporter !! I expect Carl will have learnt another lesson tonight, so why worry. Lets face it he is still a baby in management terms.............. The defence was open to begin with on Saturday, hence 2 easy goals in a match we should have won. Ok so it was slightly reversed tonight, we've been screaming out for a decent midfield that will keep the ball on the floor & pass it for years, it looks like we may just have one now. We could very easily have been top of the league after tonight's result. FFS give the manager a chance before getting too concerned..

Report from a neutral who was there:
Tuesday 17th August Blue Square North Eastwood Town vs Worcester City Duncan Street
A terrific start to my non-league reports with a thoroughly entertaining evening tonight.
The start was harmless enough, and fairly even, until the deadlock was broken on the half hour. Worcester went 1-0 up from a corner with a header coming in - it was scrambled away off the line but Mr Sullivan was on the spot to signal that it had crossed - and by virtue of the fact that there were no Eastwood protests whatsoever I can only assume he was correct. The floodgates then opened and Worcester were 4-0 up by half-time as Eastwood were totally overwhelmed. In among those was an excellent free kick from 20 yards out.
Eastwood were much more fired up for the second half, but it took them almost 15 minutes to get back into the game. They eventually pulled 2 back and by now it was an enthralling encounter which you couldn't take your eyes off. The turning point came just over 10 minutes from time when an Eastwood forward was unceremoniously brought down in the area - clear penalty given by Mr Street. However, Eastwood spurned the chance to pull it back to 4-3 as they hit the crossbar, and they then seemed to lose impetus somewhat, despite hitting the bar once more before the end. It finished 4-2.
I thought Mr Street was excellent. For most of the game he wasn't noticed which is always a good sign. He gave three yellow cards to Worcester players - one for a pull back, one for a petulant reaction after a decision and one to the goalkeeper for timewasting towards the end. His decision-making seemed fair and consistent to me - the only possible issues being when the Worcester goalkeeper went down injured on the line and he didn't stop play straightaway, which could have gone wrong but thankfully didn't, and a couple of times when he jumped in before his AR who might have been better-placed. Otherwise, the officials contributed to an excellent game - great start!

The first half was very enjoyable! the best i seen city play ever! eastwood couldnt keep up with the attacking and the ball across the foor stuff, second half eastwood didnt want to play it against the floor and kept hoofing the ball up in the air , eastwoods bold player was imense for them causing loads of problems , it was a very nervous second half with them gooing close to scoring more than 2 goals , if they would of scored that penalty then i wouldnt of betted against them getting the 4th ,goals came from a corner from thorley which clyde headed in from the far post accros the goal the second came from mark danks briliant free kick just outside the area what flew into the top corner , the third i think was from another corner plucked back in with clyde pokig his leg put and poing it into the net , with confidence high , great play from birley , oconner and danksy on the left , came to a good cross from danksy which beat the defenders and glover heading accros the keeper into the goal , city struggled in the second half btut at times played some good stuff , carghtwright had another brillaint game , Danksy was the usual , glover had a great game by his standards holding the ball up well , wardy ( mr worcester city ) looked abit shakey as thier winger ran rings around him all game , but on the note citys first hyalf performance was good enough to win any game , a win against vauxhall saturday then a home night game against hinkley who have yet to score in these two games, things are looking good on the pitch , well done heeley and the boys

Still struggling with the fact that City scored 4 goals away from home. When did that last happen?

Reading your summary Pendulum It reminds me how far we have come and what a complete turnaround from last season. A lot of teams played it on the floor and to feet last year and we were the ones giving it the hoof to Addagio etc. It was so nice on Saturday to see us playing football as it should be played and it sounds like last night was even better. It is obvious that is the way we intend playing the game this year and I hope the people of Worcester who have for so long said I am not going to watch that ****, will now come out and support the team again. They now have no excuse not to! I hope Steve keeps pushing the point in his Worcester News reports that we now pass the ball to feet and along the floor and we get people back through the gates.
PS Let's hope we can keep the pitch in as good a nick as possible to allow us to play this way. What is going to happen in January when 40 odd games have been played on it and you can count the blades of grass left on one hand?

The last time it happened was almost exactly 3 years ago - a 4-2 win at Hinckley on 13th August, 2007. Three years earlier, City also won 4-0 at Redditch on 17th August. All-in-all, City had scored exactly 4 goals away from home 7 times this century, now 8 (all being wins) - the others being at Ilkston, Newport, Hinckley (again), Hednesford and Leigh RMI.
Before last night, City had scored more than 4 goals away from home on 93 occasions (which include 5 draws and 5 defeats) - so if Eastwood had won 5-4 last night (as some of us feared at one stage), it wouldnt have been unprecedented, though possibly may have been the first time from being 4-0 up (I cant know that from the data available).
The most recent 'bigger' away win (ie scoring more than 4) was 5-2 at Barrow in 2006 in the FAT, and in the league was 5-0 at Havant and Waterlooville in March, 2004.
City's biggest ever away win was 8-3 at Stourbridge in the Birmingham League in 1930.
Hope that helps.

As far as I know City have never lost having been four goals up...

Julian - you might remember 2, possibly 3 of the occasions. Burton in 1989, Hereford in 1971 and Corby in 1966. The other 2 are ancient history - Crewe in 1907 and Wellington in 1906. Oh, the beauty (and risk of being an anorak) of spreadsheets!
As Carl has said, the 2nd half last night was an 'onslaught'. Perhaps 10 corners within the opening 10 minutes of the second-half, and the deficit reduced to two with 30 minutes still to go. A great chance missed, the penalty onto the bar, and a later header. City with very little foothold until last few minutes. It could quite easily have happened. Glad it didnt though, as the 25 minute purple patch was real quality.
Does anyone there think Tim Sandercombe got any touch onto the pen?

I can't remember 1966 or 1971, when we lost 5-4 at Burton in 1989 we were never 4 goals up, in fact I don't think we were ever ahead. I'll go and find my anorak...

Andy,
Yeah, I though Sandercombe put the ball onto the bar, rather than it just hitting the bar.

Well in that case I think we should be congratulating Sandercombe on a match winning penalty save.

Yeah it was a great save. I thought his booking for time wasting was a bit harsh, yeah ok he took the kick from the opposite side the ball went out, but he didn't walk there, he ran over.
One worry about Tim is that he seems to get pushed over quite easily and his punching is very suspect from what I've seen. Ok, that's two.
