 Your game vs Welling
« Thread Started on Nov 7, 2009, 6:17pm »

Hi all, just went to your home game vs Welling today as Harriers didn't have a game. Just wanted to put my views across as I began to write a summary of the game on the Harriers forum and got a bit carried away so thought the outsiders view may interest you. I must state beforehand I have no sort of dislike for Worcester as a club so this is not from a bitter point of view.

"Worcester will go down from what i've seen today, no commitment, no battling, no threat up front, no creativity and no ideas. Their best player was Mark Clyde by far, i'm pretty sure that he could do a fantastic job at this level. They had two good chances, first their striker hit straight at the keeper following a poor backpass from the Welling defence, the second was a good turn and shot from Wilding (I believe it was him). Welling on the other hand looked full of ideas, passing and creativity. Finn, a great winger looked fantastic, taking players on time after time and producing something half the time. Their (Welling) goal came from a mess up in the area and their player Parkinson scored a tap in. Again, no marking nor closing down.

Spoke to fans of both sides, Welling fans seemed quite nice and friendly as were the Worcester fans, but only the latter set of fans were worried about relegation. The people from Worcester that I spoke to seemed very worried, and they could see that their side possessed no threat half of the time. All of them seemed very displeased with Dryden and labelled him 'clueless' and from watching 90 minutes of the game, i'd have to agree.

I left to run to get the train and wished them well, I believe they will need such luck as Worcester should feel very very worried by the result and for this season, they have no fight and only Clyde and their goalkeeper seem up for the cause and capable. Dryden has recently brought in a player from Weston-Super-Mare who are very near the bottom. Even I could see that if he wasn't good enough to play for Weston at the bottom end then why did Worcester want him to play for them if they want to stay up. They need a team and a new manager, something I dont think they will get, one fan I spoke to was more worried about the club folding than relegation. On the other hand Welling will stay up and should finish midtable, first half they dominated in my opinion and zipped the ball around at times in ways that we would love Harriers to play like. One final point, Worcester seemed to have no singers and a severe lack of atmosphere, where Welling bought less than 20 singers and still created an average atmosphere behind the goal. "

All the best for the season, hope you stay up

Hmm.

Appreciate the sentiments, but think you need to know a lot more about the club's off-the-pitch machinations, which are very long and complex. Which aren't helping on the field.
And amazed that you're not already aware, unless you have an aversion to the local media.....

Think we'll just about scrape enough points to stay up over the season, which is a poisoned chalice anyway with our current board.

As for your lot;love them to go down, but settle for you missing out on the play-offs again.
But it's nothing personal! ;)

While some of your views on today's game are valid, I don't think you're in a position to make longer term predictions for us.

the previous home game (v Weston) was my first for a while and I thought the atmosphere that night was excellent - it helps when you're winning though!

The Kidder fan is correct, I believe City are doomed to go down, and that the bookmakers were correct in their thinking with the gambling odds at the beginning of the season.

I do believe that Richard Dryden is the only person who cannot see what is wrong with the side despite his over optimistic sayings of 'WE ARE TO GOOD TO GO DOWN.' He is somewhat blinkered in his thinking.

Up to now he has had the support of the supporters, but that tollerance is growing thin and will not last much longer, taking in some of the utterings from the spectators last night, against Chelmsford.
