I have no idea who worcester athletico are but ive heard of themm a lot ? Someone plse expl ain?
There was a decent little football club at quite a good level locally called Upton Town (naturally based in Upton on Severn) who had joined the Midland Combination Division 2 in 1988.
They got promotion to the First Division that season - and in 1993 they got promotion to the Premier Division.
DB got involved with them with a view to making them the "biggest club in Worcester" - which involved moving them up to Nunnery Wood Sports Centre and renaming them Worcester Athletico.
In 1996-97 the new club took Upton Town's place in the Midland Combination Premier Division - and won the Premier in 1997-98 - which would have meant Promotion to the Midland Football Alliance (which back then was the Division below the Doc Martens League).
However something majorly disastrous happened close season - mainly due to the poor crowds they were pulling in - and in 1998 Worcester Athletico folded and were absorbed into the Pershore Town setup.
It took quite a few years since - but happy to say - Upton Town reformed and are now playing in the Worcester League.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but what I have been told they were a club who wanted to challenge us as the city's leading football team, who I believe Boddy had a heavy involvement with prior to screwing us up and who surprise surprise went bust under the leadership of the great man. Anyway good riddance to crap, and now this will sort out the true supporters of the club in its most time of need, no excuses to stay away now!!

Its interesting how he refers to the "minority" again. This implies that he believes the majority are on his side, so do they not deserve a 'thank you for your support and goodbye'? Instead he has taken the opportunity to rant about how much he's put in and how ungrateful a "minority" are. I think it says a lot about the man that he has been bitter to the end. Still, happy christmas. The best present a WCFC fan could get.

He's right, all we could have hoped for was that air temperature got high enough through the night to thaw out the ground without the help of the sun. It didnt happen. And the Board made the right decision on the covers too - finally some solid financial decisions being made at Board level, well done to Hampson and Panter for taking the emotion out of a decision, not an easy thing to do, and of course many people will be walking in sunshine now thinking that they should be watching a football match at SGL, but it wasnt going to happen and throwing money at the problem wasnt the answer. Ironically, this to me feels like progress, and coupled with the news of Boddy's departure, maybe, just maybe, we can dare to hope.

I've just read his statement, vindictive, and wrong, to the last. Dave, you never sold the ground!! Its still owned by WCFC Ltd. The credit crunch wasnt responsible for the present situation, bad negotiation was. We all predicted the situation if a move to a new ground wasnt completed in good time, but most of us listened to the experts who said that Nunnery Way was not feasible. No half truths, no lies, just facts! I think of Boddy and co had been open and upfront about the issues facing the club regarding the City Council, they could have got a lot of supporter pressure and lobbying, but instead Boddy chose to keep up the facade that Nunnery Way was as good as a done deal. A very bitter and twisted little man, that final comment summed it up, this is the man who stated publicly that Worcester Athletico would be the biggest team in Worcester - thats how much WCFC are "his team and always will be!"
Agreed, now hopefully everyone can pull in the same direction. I look forward to seeing the likes of Ealing, and the others down the lane (even jcp ) and now hopefully the past is exactly that.
To be honest in this season of good will I also hope DB can continue his life as a supporter at the Lane. Yes he may have been misguided, incompetent or out of his depth but I don't believe any of his actions were malicious.
Heres to a new beginining.......
prestonwcfc, I'd love to, but the problem is that for me to go to games on a Saturday afternoon now, I have to postpone what I've been doing on a Saturday afternoon for the last two years, and to be honest, its more important, more fun, and a great deal more interesting. Its not like I've been hanging around waiting. I might be able to get dow to an evening game but that excitement of going to SGL is really no longer there. I know there are plenty of others who feel the same and understand that. You will have to introduce your self to me preston, as a beer is most definitely in order for you. I can assure you that a couple of DB's actions were of a malicious nature, one in particular against me had nothing whatsoever to do with being misguided or incompetent, and he alone knows why he did it, but hey ho, he was angry and confused and turned to spite I guess. Why he feels the need to resign now, as opposed to 2 years ago, one can only wonder. I agree with georgethebassetts post though, who in their right mind would put a football club before family, health and business? Sorry but Shankly was an idiot with that comment of his. If only Boddy had listened to someone, anyone!!

12.30 or 3.00 kick off would make no difference. The strip running the length of the main stand will be frozen solid, as it has been in every similar circumstance for the 40 years I've been watching the City. It's just one of those things.
